The rhetoric may have suggested otherwise, but Puskedra wasn't going for a sub-8:30. He was going for the prep record, hence his 4:18 opening mile as his coach suggested. A sub-8:30 would have meant he was planning on coming back sub-4:12, which is unrealistic, even for German. And while many feel it wa a spetacle, I don't remember the Pre TV coverage talking about him at all.
German is on another level, yes, but Puskedra just went through 3200 in 8:42 high or 8:43 low, meaning he is an 8:42 guy for 3200. Pretty amazing stuff, putting him on the same level as Pre, Virgin, Lindgren, and Ritz, among others. How many have broken 8:40? Exactly two, and only one in the last 25 years. It would still be fun to see Fernandez and Puskedra line up at NON. Fernandez looks to go sub-8:30 and Puskedra perhaps sub-8:40 in the same race?
