Yes, the 13:06 wasn't meant as what he could run now, but perhaps he will run sub 13 in 4 years. he looked very smooth and easy at 64-second laps, only seemed to "muscle through" on the last lap.
He's going to Oklahoma State (of all places) in Stillwater

12 runs a week. Double every day, but off on Sunday.
That is not entirely true either. Some times his coach will have him run much easier and sometimes he will run much harder. When he returned from world xc, he ran a distance triple in a dual meet plus a workout of 200's (as stated above) plus a 5 x 1 mile cruise interval session in the course of a week. That is what led to his achilles.
Upon returning from the achilles injury, he ran pretty much only one hard workout a week (plus the races of course).
The week of our divisional section meet (May 12-16) where he ran 4:05 and 9:00, he did 3 x 1.25 miles coming through the mile at 4:30-4:32 and then kicking a 59 last lap. This was done on riverbank's dirt track in flats.

About 100x's better than Giles Quad he pulled off in MD ~25ish years ago.
there are probably 5 Africans his age that can run same thing.

What's your point? There are hundreds of amazing American high schoolers who haven't done what he did.
On a worldwide level, this means nothing. Nothing.
Webb ran 353 and was just a few steps behind lagat and el G.
German couldn't come anywhere close to the best in his best event.
You cant diminsh Giles' quad as 100x less than that. Different events. Giles ran some ridiculous performances with range that very few have ever had. State CC champ and 300m indoor champ. Fenom talent with less capable coaching than many top HS ers.
Does it make you feel better about yourself to try to diminish the performances of others?
What you need to understand is that German's excellent performance does not make you less of a person. But your reaction to it does.
Sorry to say, but you are going to live a sad life.
What makes the performance even more impressive is the fact his splits were extremely even in both races (30's in the 1600 and 32's in the 3200).
200m splits that is.
Webb lost to El G by four seconds. He was no more a factor than German would be.

Watching that video of the 3200, he didn't look like he was running very hard at that pace -- minimal arm swing, etc.
I'm not sure if it had been mentioned elsewhere on LR, for the last 180 meters of German's 3200, the FSN TV cameras caught him smiling. I was like, damn. Incredible all-time performance.
I had a chance to attend the meet live being approx. 18 miles from my pad...did I miss out on history.
Ryun was the most incredible high school runner in any event, ever, period. Webb was a once-a-generation type. This young man just had the best American 1 and 2 mile double ever. I'm not comparing him to anyone else but myself. My best double in HS was 4:35/10:08.

Well put!
