Geez guys, lets not turn this thread into a Webb rant, keep it to Fernandez. The 3200 is at 7.m.

is this selective memory day on letsrun or something? webb ran a 13:57 on a hilly 2.97mi course (~4800m). extrapolate that out to a 5k and you've got ABOUT a 14:30. is that really "nowhere near" the aerobic strength of Fernandez?
i realize that everyone tends to think that the best runner they've seen in person is superhuman, but webb was better than fernandez in every way. webbs, ritzs, nelsons, ryuns, etc. don't happen every year. fernandez is good, but he's not on their level.

4:00.29 is getting there, the season isn't over either. He breaks the 2 mile record and he is THE MAN.
fernandez has been injured a TON, what he has accomplished so far is certainly putting him in the league, he runs 8:45 on doubles! and he'll probably run faster than that, could be the biggest high school double ever today.
Dude, Webb went 3:59 indoors, split a sub 4 for 1600 on a relay as a junior and ran a sub 4 1600 at Arcadia as a senior. If you are trying to come up with some argument that German is better, just stop now.

That being said, I was simply using that reference to point out that a fast 1600m time doesn't necessarily indicate that the young man is ready to run 8:35.

I think he has a shot at it.
Do you realize the aerobic strength it takes to run 3:53? You're a bloody moron.
And your second point is simply diffused through facts. Get a clue before you spout such stupidity.
Bringing it back to German.
Hit 4:18 at the 1600 for his 3200 race. Even split gives him a 8:36. Add a 64 to that. He is picking it up.
Don Sage ran the exact same time as Fernandez in high school . . . but Sage's time was for the mile. Since high school Sage has not achieved what might have been hoped for him. Of course, one might say Sage trained very hard in HS and Fernandez did not, but right now Fernandez fits neatly between Sage and A.J. Acosta. So, let's say Fernandez's time is a terrific high school time--period, end of story.
8:34 WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
8:34 WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
8:34!?
8:34!!
Remarkable. Is it safe to say that this is the best HS boy's distance double ever?

1 Fernandez, German 12 Riverbank/sj 8:34.23
F***ING SICK! Why oh why did Derrick have to get mono?
I'd have to say that's 4:00/8:34 is a pretty elite double for a hs kid.
German now owns the national & california state record for 3200 (bumping king Ritz from the throne).
Anyone still want to dispute this kid's status as one of the better preps in history?

except fernandez ran 8:34 two hours later, so let's just say SHUT THE F#@K UP!!!

Good call man.
Okay . . . I was wrong . . . again. It's not the end of the story. Vastly the greatest long distance double in the history of high school track and field.
