all this talk about rupp and nothing about will leer, a former d3 guy who went sub 4 indoors to win? come on. look at the good things in the sport. don't just bash rupp for not running because he was injured.
It's not really Rupp's fault but in a way he's a symbol of how lame track has become. There's a press release talking about a sub 4 attempt so track fans get excited then he no shows. Maybe he was sick, maybe he got hurt, maybe they just decided not to run, he really doesn't OWE us an explanation. But it's pretty hard to follow track when most of the top athletes go underground for 95% of the year, they issue vague proclamations of races they might run, no-show for some, run well for others, make world teams and then don't run at world's, and generally don't do much to make things entertaining. Even the way they interact with the media or celebrate their race wins is boring. And Rupp is a perfect example of this. Would you rather watch Rupp time-trial another 10k or watch an Ohio State-Michigan dual meet? I'm sure lots of you would pick the time trial - give me the dual meet.
