what's the importance then? he has a job with nike. he's in his early 50s. i rather doubt he was going to return to usatf or another association. he's a rather rich chap already. what does he care what you or i think of him?
i'm well aware of how all this looks from the outside. the timing of these two events are quite dumb from a public relations perspective. on the other hand, i don't really buy that there was any malfeasance going on. sacramento couldn't outbid eugene/nike for these events, even if there was an open bidding process. the marketing and tickets sold for the 2008 trials provides all the cover usatf needs for their decision. should there have been open bidding? of course. but it doesn't follow that anything would have changed or that anything untoward was happening.
