I agree. Every runner today should read this...

Duh. The above was in reference to Ron Clarke's "The Lonely Breed."

TLOR is a pretty big but solid book. The anecdotes of all the greats through history are must reads.
Maybe mostly for coaches, but I found Joe Newton's "The Long Green Line" instructive/enlightening/entertaining. This guy was covering all the bases.
TLGL is about his coaching the York HS boys to the 1968 IL state x-c title. Just the listing of their workouts is worth the price of admission. These guys were hard core.
I understand that the book has been re-issued within the last couple years. I might even buy another copy--I wore the cover off my old one...
Thanks for the book suggestions! I'll check my library or do an interlibrary loan.
I have said this before but one of my passions is second hand books and I have managed to pick up some good ones over the years.
I have currently available
2 copies of "Run to the Top' ( 1 Original, 1 second ed 1967)
2 copies of Peter Snell's 'No Bugles, No drums"
1 Copy of 'A clean pair of heels" (Murray Halberg)
1 copy of 'Giolds aren't easy' (Richard Tayler)
1 copy of "Lap of Honour"
Anyone keen, email me.
Problem as I have said before is postage to the US is not cheap. Positive is our kiwi Dollar is down against US$. So conversion rate helps.
To learn what it took to be an Olympic 5K Champion, what it was like to train with Coach Mihaly Igloi and what training and racing in the early 1960s was like read Bob Schul's "In The Long Run".
The Lore of Running..
I compare it to the Bible- that I don't own.
"The Golden Mile" by Herb Elliott is one of the greatest running books ever, about probably the gretaest Miler in history. I think the US version is simply called "The Herb Elliott Story."
An apparently great non-running book that relates to running is Jan Olbrecht's "The Science of Winning". This book is out of print (check http://www.lactate.com/bkolbr.html)-- I requested it last week by doing an interlibrary loan, so can't wait to get it!
"Running is the answer to an indefinite number of questions, the cause of countless pains, and a constant friend as I venture through life."
"Running used to be at the forefront of so much happiness in my life, and I crave for it to be so again."
I have been a lifelong runner and recently I published the book "Running State" with Amazon. I am getting a lot of positive feedback on the book. Check it out.
It is available on Amazon in paperback for $7.99:

It is also available on Amazon in digital ebook format for $2.99 or even free for Amazon Prime members:
