How ridiculous. Sydney has never been "canceled". She's one of the most popular women's athletes at these games. I and many others can't stand her given her ultra-religious schtick and the fact that she's scared to actually race real competition, but she has never been "canceled". Total victim mentality.
"scared to race real competition" just broke her own world record for the fifth time, won OG in the 400mH and 4x400m Relay. SMH.
Do most people have a problem with athletes giving credit to God for their performances?
I think that people have issues with athletes that publicly praise The Lord, then turn around and make tabloid headlines partying hard, banging everything in sight, act foolishly, insult their rivals, and other behavior that is antithetical to their claimed faith.
It's the hypocrisy of a few that makes people roll their eyes whenever a wealthy athlete or celebrity decides to play the God card.
No, don’t care and in fact, I’m an atheist but liked Marisa Howard’s message at the trials about how God would have been there for her even if she was last. (I paraphrase.)
Wild that specifically Americans are so into God/religion and also have the worst math/science/reading test scores in the western world. Remember, Sydney didn’t finish college. Not that she needed to, of course. You just never see a genius being so into God, do you?

Terrible test scores indeed but you think religion is the problem and not LGBTQ, DEI and gender change issues forced on our youth while the time could be better spent actually teaching math/science/reading?
Exactly. Singapore teaches math. Many US teachers teach DEI and trandgenderism.

She appears to be responding to a question of whether she would care if she lost an endorsement if was for her beliefs and she says no that that God would provide for her. Why is this controversial?

The woke, anti-religious left has mocked her.
It's not hard to mock cult members who think a man who lives in the sky helps them win races
It's not hard to mock cult members who think a man who lives in the sky helps them win races
It is interesting because I wonder what the feeling would be if someone stood up after a race and was straight up like,
"I want to thank myself for holding it together out there. I trained my a$$ off - even on days I didn't want to train, it was by in large lonely and it sucked but with the help of my parents, partner, coach and friends they were able to support the most they could - but ultimately this is on me because I have to actually go run this muthaf---r and yeah, I did it."
Because I would guess the "hate" would be exactly the same.
So the moral of the story is, if you want to avoid criticism like this - JUST KEEP IT TO YOURSELF - otherwise, don't be so entitled to believe you should be immune from it. Yeah it's a free country - you can express yourself and so can others in return. End of story.
Free country, she can do what she wants, she is a WR holder.
But any religion is not "the truth" except to the person who believes it. I don't bemoan her beliefs. I bemoan anyone who expects someone else to believe them, or thinks less of someone who thinks differently when it comes to faith.
She isn't free because it is a free country. She would be free in any country in the world, because it is the truth that sets her free. There is nothing about her comments that indicates she "thinks less of someone who thinks differently when it comes to faith."

The issues listed are fairly new in the educational sphere, and yeah, accepting people for who they are - how awful. Poor education in the U.S. has been an issue for decades.
Read Anti-Intellectualism in American Life by Richard Hofstadter. Tough read but worth it.
Yes, they are fairly new but if you think it's a matter of just accepting people for who they are you haven't been paying attention. Helping grade school kids transition WITHOUT notifying parents, books in school libraries with graphic descriptions of sex acts, pushing (not just accepting) LGBTQ issues, etc. Ands whether the education system has been a mess for decades or not (I think it has), the way to correct it isn't through spending time on social issues that do nothing to address poor performance in core curriculum subjects.
She appears to be responding to a question of whether she would care if she lost an endorsement if was for her beliefs and she says no that that God would provide for her. Why is this controversial?

Almost none of that is even brought up before college almost anywhere. So stop bringing up misinformation and right-wing talking points.
Our education system failing has nothing to do with this and more to do with not obtaining and retaining qualified teachers consistently; drug issues in much of the country which distract kids, including at home; incompetent parenting is hitting its stride on a societal level never seen in this country before; parents having too work too many hours, not being involved and this plays into the last one but isn’t the only issue; technology addiction is making ADHD the mainstream
I won't address your second paragraph because I mostly agree but your first paragraph is absolutely false, including that I'm a right winger. I could cite numerous references of the issues I mentioned being pushed well before the high school level, including grade school, but my suspicion is that it would be time wasted because you aren't interested in facts that are uncomfortable for you.
