Hasa Diga Eebowai!
Letsrun, where the "Olympic Spirit" is criticized.
This place seems to attract the most bitter and miserable souls. Then again, it does mirror the attitudes of its owners. A fan site that is mostly anti-fan and serves to denigrate rather than celebrate athletics.
Great races for them & anybody saying otherwise is just a hater. This was a good field. They stuck their noses in it & both ran 2:08 on a hilly course on a day that reached 70 degrees w./ dew point in the upper 50s/60-even. Put them in Berlin/London every year before LA & you'll see at least 2:06 -- but that's the point, it doesn't matter & some need to recognize that. Their Trials performances + this one shows that being top-3 in the US, even without a blazing fast pb, puts you in contention. Finishing well at domestic majors means that you can be competitive in global championships & that you can run faster than your PBs. Awesome races. Hope to see the women replicate their success tomorrow.
To be fair, there is no doubt that Mantz and Young continue to be drunk on the Mormon kool aid.
To quote Trey Parker and Matt Stone: "The truth is, I don't care if Joseph Smith made it all up, because what the church teaches now is loving your family, being nice and helping people... You've got a lot of growing up to do, buddy. Suck my balls."
At least, unlike the other god warrior Ran Hall, they are smart enough to not have God as their coach.
Avoiding alcohol and caffeine, not to mention believing you are on a messianic quest, most likely would improve most people's running.
I hope that the Church of Jesus-Christ of Latter Day Saints is providing more than just kool aid to Mantz and Young - they deserve some true earthly rewards and good old American dollars for their advertising value.
Connor and Clayton's training isn't good enough. Cool that you can run 8 miles at 5:20 past followed by 3 x mile in 4:25. I'm sure the high school kids at summer camp get super excited when you tell them that.
Meanwhile, the Africans are training to win
Everyone knows the Africans are doing more than training. Mantz and Young have got to be wondering where they rank among clean athletes.
I know he questioned himself covering the early move but I was glad he did and ran a gutsy race he can be proud of. Nice job, you made this American proud.
Out of all the distance events, the East African dominance is still the strongest in the marathon. Still have some work to do
Spot on.
Plus 50 Ethiopians. Plus 20 Kenyans, Plus 20 Ugandans.
Tola was a replacement 2 weeks ago.
2 minutes back is not like Fishers /Nuguse being "close".

Its' 2024 and we are happy for 2:08's that guys were running in 1985 !!!!
Actually, come to think of it, I got a fist bump from Jared Ward at the finish of the NYC half, waaay after he finished.
I have to admit it's bad enough to have Mormons walking around my neighborhood knocking on doors, I'd be incredibly annoyed if I was greeted by Mormons at the finish line of the Olympic marathon.
poor person.
So, are you opposed to the “LA Olympics have no hope” post?
So just because their American it’s assumed they're clean. OK.
I got a hand shake from Meb a few years ago after finishing NYC. I kicked him in the nuts and told him not to try to proselytize me!
Wow! I've never seen a comment get hammered more 193 downvotes at last count!
Letsrunner distance bro's are radicals.
Some of the finishers were clearly in the process of praying/thanking God when crossing the finish line and not two seconds later Young is in their face asking for a high five. You'd think a religious guy would have more sense than that.
You want to congratulate everyone? Fine. Do it more than 2 meters from the finish line, for fcks sake. Some of the finishers couldn't even be seen on camera because Young and Mantz were blocking the shot lol. Imagine being the family of those guys - you want to watch your loved one cross the finish line and all you get to see is two mormon dudes.
Loving them doing the low five thing. Can't remember ever seeing that before.
Be nice to see a little more camaraderie mid race. Obviously I'd want it to go too far for some tastes.
Congratulate others? By all means, yes. I used to do the same. I don't mind that they waited to congratulate others, but back up off the finish line to do it.
The organizers set up a majestic finish line to be amazing for runners and to look amazing on TV and in photos (and it does). But each of the other finishers had their special moments interrupted by two dudes that they have no association with. Let the runners have their moment and congratulate them well after they cross the line. The last thing I want immediately after finishing a marathon is a high five with someone I don't know. And, yes, I'd be pissed after the fact if a photo of my Olympic finish had these two dudes in it or blocking me.
Maybe there is some incentive tied to a top 10 finish, such as 500 dollars cash bonus?

Wow. How NOT to run a 4 x 100. US men's medal drought in 4 x 100 is now going to extend to 24 years
