I think the move to the front was a gusty move. It is consistent with her moves in her NCAA races. She was testing herself. Why not? She didn't have anything to lose. I hope she sticks around Europe to see if she can get in a couple other races over here before heading home.
An outstanding result, 1 place higher than Nico in the men's 10k.
She ran a gusty race, tried to take the lead at one point. She probably made a couple too many moves that tired her a little by the end, but you have to give her credit for running for a medal instead of just 9th place.

Isn't it when you have no chance that you take chances? Makes all sense in the world and was gutsy to push when there was no chance. Better than listening to everyone saying no chance and doing nothing memorable.
agreed. part of me was hoping she would go full Agate Caune and just go out like a comet and let the Africans reel her in and see if she could stay ahead of most of them before the finish line came. would probably have been a dumb strategy but the adrenaline spike among the american viewers screaming "hold on Valby! hold on!!" would have been worth it.
It was a solid race considering that her international racing debut was at the Olympics. She got right in the mix with some pretty legendary runners. She did struggle with running in the pack due to her long legs and long stride. She may have stayed with the pack a bit longer had she held on to the rail a bit more and did not have as much jostling. Kind of makes you wonder whether she would do better on the roads.

Incel. She ran 10 seconds slower than her PR. Get a grip dude.
Men's race was OR pace, women's race was slow AF. Nothing gutsy tonight.
Oh really? How did your Olympic race go right out of college?
It’s not about that- you don’t compare to a random person. The point was being made (badly) that she did anything impressive- but she didn’t. We’re not here to give medal for finishing the race, she ran bad and should’ve even be talked about - there’s so many other people who actually are impressive.
I don’t have to play golf and can still point out bad golfers. You don’t need to run sub 8min mile to know that girl is just another also ran
Yes. You answered your own question. You don't understand running at a high level.
She passed someone with a 28:54 PR. Would you do that if you were her? I would feel kind of foolish. She was neither competing with her, or running at a high level.
