You'd think we could get some sort of update by now from world athletics. His status should be the #1 priority for the LRC boots on the ground.

Do we have any updates for sure yet?
I have no idea how some outlets got a story out so fast
Not going to make a real link for this image because it is too disturbing by default but they took him off in a stretcher and neck brace so it's super serious

I would be surprised if we got an update before Thursday/tomorrow.
Didn't slam his head from what I hear so that's a relief. He'll be fine.
Yes

it looks like when he fell he hit back of head on the track

With how he landed and the fact that he looked like he lost consciousness they'd probably have him on a board/brace as a precaution regardless of what they thought. The fall really did not look good though.
Cervical collar is just standard of care for a fall like that. It didn’t look like he hit his head but he could have whiplash and based on where he landed a broken collarbone, arm, or shoulder. Hope he’s okay

And where'd you hear that? From the replay he clearly did, and appeared to be unconscious.
Any update? Just hoping he's ok.

I feel sick. Cant enjoy the regular letsrun banter after this fall
I watched a video of the NBC coverage posted to X and viewed it a few frames at a time. Girma's trailing knee hits the barrier and the impact spins his body in a clockwise direction. When he hits the track, the impact appears to be a little bit north of his shoulder blades. The head doesn't snap back but the brunt of the blow appears to be at the base of his neck. His body goes limp at impact and the momentum rolls him to a resting position. The spine isn't very robust at that point in the chain.
He clearly hit the back of his head (hard) on the track. I didn't see a fencing response but it reminded me a lot of Tua's big injury (his likely 2nd in 1 week)
And apparently the medics carried him off in a stretcher / backboard
Can someone explain what the fencing response is?
The fencing response is an unnatural position of the arms following a concussion. Immediately after moderate forces have been applied to the brainstem,
the forearms are held flexed or extended (typically into the air) for a
period lasting up to several seconds after the impact.

We all have our own ways of using the internet I guess
Injury doesn't appear to be life threatening, but it is a bit concerning that he has no regained consciousness.

Thank goodness! (About the first part; still keeping Girma in my thoughts and hoping for a full recovery)
