Generally the "glory to god" post race quotes annoy me but this one honestly seems appropriate.
You are on pace for a 3 second PR to 3:27 in the Olympic final, the rail opens up with 80 meters to go, and you still outkick the defending world champion... I'd give credit to a higher power.
Someday, probably long after we're all dead, religion will go the way of other silly supernatural beliefs that have been dispelled by scientific and cultural progress.
Like, sure dude it was def God carrying you. But then why did you train for the race instead of just praying about it?

It was unexpected to hear him make several references to God. It is something I usually associate with sprinters, not American distance runners. I guess Salazar/Rupp being the huge exception.
Some Muslim runners drop to the track and kiss the track and pray to God right after their races. That would look very out of place coming from Hocker, right?
I was just a little surprised because it was not part of the Hocker persona that I knew prior to this race.

It makes me like him less. Quotes like this always seem inappropriate in sports. If he were saving a baby, sure, maybe God carried him a bit. As in his faith. If he's using God to win a race, which is basically to stoke his ego and make money, then no, I don't think God got involved in that. He has more important things to do. So it's bad theology, and it strikes of false modesty to boot.
God will also carry sidney over the already low hurdles. Hopefully the usa stays religious or they would surely lose against china
I assume you are just joking around but here's a question of "God logic" for you:
If there is some cosmic battle between good and Evil (which is what religious people believe), and if there is a coming war between China and the US (which is what you are implying), then why would God favor China (a largely atheist nation) over the USA (which is still the most religious of the Western nations)?
Even if we were half as religious as we are now, we would still be more way more religious than China. So wouldn't God still have to "be on our side" using your logic?

fugging moron
It's commendable to believe that something is entirely up to you, and to take total ownership of it. I respect that atheistic position. However, there is a lot more subtlety in the experience of a religious person working for something and believing God is right there with them than is often given credit for. When one believes that they are in relationship to God, the training sort of is the prayer.

It would be a close one. There are more believers in the USA and the USA has also killed a lot of infidels. But the USA is also very sinnfull. I think it would depend on old vs new testament god.
