But, in a vacuum, jakobs run would have been “more impressive.” If this were some random diamond league, what jakob did would have been more impressive.
3:28.2 leading the entire way is a stronger showing than 3:27.6 with a pacer for 1400+ meters. Does any of that matter? No. He lost. But freaking out over this take like it’s completely asinine is stupid.
The only thing from the original post I take significant issue with is calling it “one of the greatest achievements in athletics history.” One of the greatest shows of strength? Sure, he ran over a second faster than anyone else ever has from the front. Is 4th at the olympics in any context an all time great achievement? No
