He didn’t get pushed back ffs, there was some minor contact. Cole ran very well but was lucky to have all the benefits of hugging the curve ,less distance to run, with none of the drawbacks, not being able to get passed. If the roles were reversed and hocker was on the outside in lane 2 for the whole final curve. he wouldn’t have won . Still a great race from hocker and nuguse. Ingebrigsten and Kerr hurt themselves more in the heats which is another point about how their rivalry led to them both being beaten.

I thought the same. First he tried to sneak inside Jacob on the turn and got properly rebuffed, then after he cleared Jacob on the straight he went from middle of lane 1 to middle of lane 2, forcing Kerr to move out. I wish Kerr had held his line and let Cole run into him.
Kerr actually ran a perfect race for him, there's nothing more he could have done. Sometimes, there's just someone better. For all the grief Kerr gets on these boards, he's actually a lot more magnanimous about his competitors than Jakob (who won't even say their names). Kerr was first to congratulate Hocker and he had a moment with Nuguse as well. Kerr lost with a lot more class today than Jakob ever has.

agree 100%.
I don't think that front running from the gun works anymore. That 5% or so wind disadvantage really cannot be overcome when everyone is at their best.
Kerr was very classy. And I can't believe we aren't talking about how well Yared ran.
The only properly world class race hocker has ever run apart from today obviously was the us championships a month ago or something and hocker showed a fast kick for a somewhat fast time time it was a 3:30 mid or something but there’s never been a reason to think he would run so quick it’s the first time. Think of all the times hocker fans have seen him run another mediocre time and still thinking he’s going to best the fastest in the world.
When have Hocker fans seen him run a mediocre time and thought he was going to best the fastest in the world? Or is 3:30 mid the mediocre time? Because he'd only run that once before this year, and it was at last years WCs coming off an injury where I don't think anyone expected him to win. He was out for most of 2022, but maybe his Prefontaine Mile where he was around 6th in 3:50? Anyone who's seen it could tell you he could've run faster if he didn't get stuck behind people in the homestretch, but I don't think anyone thought he'd be competing with Jakob, who trounced the field. Maybe the 2021 Trials 3:35? Although Tbf to Hocker fans, the spectacular part about that race was that he beat the reigning Olympic champ with a close that would've won gold before.
Really, Hocker is THE guy to think he could run faster based on a much slower time with a big kick. Huge kick at NCAAs/USAs in 2021 turns into a 2s pb in the Olympic semis and another 2s pb in the final. Another huge kick at 2023 USAs in a 3:34 race and knocks another second off his PB in a fast race. Runs 3:30 with a huge kick at 2024 USAs, and I think immediately after I said he could definitely run 3:28, maybe 3:27. Maybe we're not just Hocker fanboys who are blinded by bias, maybe we're just Hocker fans who are rooting for him because we can see his potential.
And also, I think a lot of the hype around Hocker has been about what he could do with another year or two of training. He started 2022 as one of the best in the world, got hurt, came back at the end of the season, got hurt again in 2023 and managed 7th at Worlds, and after another year of being healthy, he was the best in the world.
Hocker would have won by more if Jakob didn't close him off coming out of the turn.
Hocker broke stride and still came back to win. I don't know if people appreciate how hard that is.
He had to reset his kick and still beat runners of this caliber. What does he run if it was a clean kick? I’m thinking he can get to a level that Jacob and Kerr can’t touch.

I think Kerr could have won if he hadn't tried to stick to Jakob as closely for the first 2 laps. What Hocker did was more efficient, but perhaps more risky. If Jakob was able to hold on and run a 3:26 then Hocker may have been left behind. Kerr was focused on sticking to Jakob and passing him no matter what, but it probably cost him some energy.
I think any of Jakob, Kerr, Nuguse, or Hocker could have won. Though Hocker/Kerr seems more likely in retrospect.
When Jakob started looking back with a little more than 200m to go I thought he’d do something desperate. On the home stretch he veered left to cut off Hocker, then he had to veer right to slow Kerr. I’m surprised he didn’t try to tackle both.
Did you notice how big of a stop Jakob gave Hocker? Had that not happened, Hocker may have run 3:26 high to 3:27 Low low.
Yes that was wild. He ran right up onto Jacob's back and tagged his back and slowed down. I'm not sure how much time he lost. If Jacob does not drift to the right, I don't think that Hocker wins. He almost started to try to swing wide, but Nuguse was already there. I think if Hocker has to swing wide, Kerr wins and Nuguse might get the silver, Hocker bronze. VERY FORTUNATE but great of him to see it open up and take it!
He did not run right onto Jacobs back, did you guys not watch the race? He was almost even with Jakob when Jakob moved left to close the gap and cut him off. Hocker had enough room to pass him, that's why he got up that close. Do you guys think he was trying to phase through Ingebritsens body, or that he's too dumb to understand how mass works?
