She grabbed Tsegay's arms for no reason. Probably wasn't purposeful, but it shouldn't have happened.
Oh my god snowflakes, my G.
No reason? How about this reason - you are running along holding your position on the track, you aren't slowing down or impeding anyone. A runner comes up from behind you , on your shoulder and their arms start swinging in front of yours that is now directly impedingyou. On top of that this runner is moving across in front of you and your only "out" is the damn rail/infield? Olympic 5000m final, full concentration, running in an almost subconscious state - what happens?
That if anything was a purely subconscious reaction from Kipyegon and the "reaction" part is the key. If Tsegay simply passes by her in a straight line (not cutting across her as we know she does because she ends up directly in front of her on the rail), none of this happens. That's the end of it. I wouldn't have DQ'd Tsegay either btw even though it was her damn fault - just let it go.
What I find hilarious is that when the Giles v Kerr incident happened, everyone was all over Giles for exactly this - running across in front of Kerr and taking his space on the track. Almost the same thing happened - Kerr hooked Giles arms and it ended up being much messier but the comparisons are very similar - and I bet the same crew is here ready to die on the sword that it was Kipyegon at fault?!?!
