I bet you didn’t feel that way when there was talk of Condi Rice running for President.
Surely all of you Harris fans remember Rice?: National Security Adviser & Secretary of State. The smartest person in virtually any room she was in. Earned her way to the top by virtue of her ability, hard work, and pure brilliance.
And unlike Harris her ancestors were slaves in the American South, rather than slaveowners in the West Indies.
If she’d been the nominee (then naturally with a better VP pick than Vance, given how smart she is), you wouldn’t have a hard time convincing me to vote for her over any number of options.
But “Rice is better than Harris” is a useless point if Harris is facing Trump.
like all of your Red Wave posts from 2018, 2020, 2022. Like the UK and France this year? The only accurate prediction for this fall is YOU will be crying about it.
Trump is hugely unpopular, and a majority of people don't want him to be president.
Biden was the only Dem who could have lost to Trump. And Trump is the only Republican who can lose to Harris.
Harris can win. She did not take well to her role as VP initially. She had famous fumbles where she clearly knew that she could not talk substantively about an issue for fear of making Biden and his inner circle mad if she said something on the record that wasn't to their liking. But, of late, she has stepped up and shown to have improved her game with some good public appearances as the point person on abortion.
I think the main issue will be whether she gets captured by the same dummies thought Hilary ran a great campaign or whether her campaign will let her go toe to toe with Trump and take on his fake populism.
Possibly the only emotion stronger than the public’s dislike of cackling Kamala is the public’s dislike of Trump. It will come down to who do you hate more.
I expect it to be a very close race, decided by tens of thousands of votes in a few states, at most.
But we ask interesting questions. Could we ask...
Can a man found guilty of 34 felonies win?
Is a woman better situated in a post-Dobbs era, when facing an adjudicated sexual abuser?
Can a man who led a failed coup attempt win?
Is it better to be a former VP or have a former VP that won't endorse you (in fact, that opposes you)?
Is it better to be two decades younger than the opposition when Americans, through polls, have made it abundantly clear that they do not want an old man?
Can a candidate win when his alarming mental decline will be on display for months on end?
Women hate the Dobbs decisions by about 70%. And if you throw in that Project 2025 handmaiden tale stuff it angers women more and more.
Now you addd a weird misogynistic creep like JD Vance and that makes Kamala even more favorable
Lastly, if you tell voters that they are the final judge and jury for Trump ever seeing his trial taker place, and they will relish the charts have a say in that.

My point was that it isn’t racism that would prevent many “white men” (as the poster I was responding to claimed) from voting for Harris—it is her ideology & dubious qualifications that turns many off.

Fake populism? Look at this thread for evidence of why people are fed up with a platform of "we are better than you, if you don't vote for us, you are trash." The sanctimony and constant condescension from the left rightly puts off the average American. I'm under no illusions about Trump, but at least he and his base aren't constantly demeaning normal people for being normal. Yes, I know that Trump demeans some people.
TLDR: To the average American voter, leftist politicians and their vocal supporters (on everyone's social media) are Shooter McGavin, while Trump and his sometimes over-the-top supporters are Happy Gilmore (imperfect and sometimes weird, but way closer to the everyman).
Any analysis that examines Kamala’s “unpopularity” but doesn’t acknowledge Trump’s is… not a good one. Trump is not a strong candidate by any metric!
I don’t think Kamala is an outstanding candidate but you don’t need one to beat a candidate as weak as Trump. Reason for optimism.
Kamala’s favorable ratings are markedly worse. And that’s as someone who has been kept from the spotlight. I don’t see a way in which they improve with more exposure. Trump’s numbers have remained pretty steady and is a known commodity. I think your take is a little off compared to the general public’s perception.
Realistically, the platform against the GOP and Trump should be so easy it's unreal. Obviously him and everything he is 😂 that's clear (rapist pedo conman convicted felon wannabe dictator Florida Man).
But if they want to take stances that MOST AMERICANS want here are some issues she should consider running on:
A majority of U.S. adults continue to think the federal government should ensure universal healthcare coverage, while they also prefer that the U.S. healthcare system be based on private insurance rather than government-run.

Trump’s populism is real in the sense that his followers perceive him as someone who cares about them and is going to fight the establishment on their behalf. But it’s all fake because it’s built on the false premise that he is similar to the everyman.
This is a guy who was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. His entire life has been spent in elite wealthy circles. He is a con artist, and his ability to convince his followers that he’s like them and cares about them has got to be one of the biggest con jobs in American history.

Ok. I was on board with your “isn’t racism” point after your first post and considered the second one a bit much. The vast majority of the white men voting for Trump this fall would vote for the candidate with an R next to their name. A small percentage would probably turn from a candidate because of racism or misogyny (which is distressing, but at least it’s probably a small percentage).
And, sadly, only a small percentage would be persuaded by apparently greater intelligence and more formidable experience/achievements.
