Yes, of course. But it only ranks him 6th this year.
2nd American however…
It’s an amazing performance. Now ranks him 2nd all time U20.
Steve Lewis ran 43.87 as a U20.
He ran for 11 extra seasons. Never improved on his 43.87.
We need to consider Wilson’s performance as a “senior” performance.
It ranks him 22nd all time in the US.
His chance on improving on this 44.20 are just as good as Deadmon improving on his 44.22
Except Quincy is still underdeveloped. A lot of the previous phenoms had grown men bodies. So I think his chance of improving a lot is higher than you might suggest.

Ok, let’s track Deadmon and Wilson’s progress over the next 2 years.

That’s fine but hopefully neither of their careers are over in the next 2 years.
Will be hilarious to see whatever justification the powers that be come up with to keep this from being a high school national record like they did with Mary Cain
Well, no it wouldn't have because it was run on a different track and not after 3 rounds. Furthermore the season-ending WL in the 400 was in the 43s range both of those years.
Hopefully he can make an individual team before he leaves HS, definitely on the cards, especially if an American wins the DL final next year meaning 4 athletes can go
He might have a claim to run the final in Paris..... Splitting 43 low - 42 high seems realistic and would do it.
Doubt it, unless someone is injured. Keep in mind that Rai usually runs a leg. And while I'm a huge fan, I'd pick Rai over Quincy for the Olympic final.
On the other hand, you could certainly run Quincy on the mixed 4x4 and the men's 4x4 rounds.
Maybe you consider Quincy Wilson ahead of Deadmon based on this race. But they were 5th and 6th at the trials. So I'd still put Quincy Hall, Norman, Rai Benjamin and Chris Bailey ahead on the depth chart, with Vernan Norwood as the veteran helping with rounds.
OTOH, Noah Lyles can shut up about relay duty unless he thinks he can run a 44-low.
Nice to see the US get some depth back in the 400m.
I could see him going 44.0 this year but no faster
Whats impressive is that 300m split. Would be a world u18 best by a wide, wide margin if there was official timing on it (and obviously a US hs record as well)
What is impressive is that a 16 year old ran 44.2.
Love seeing a fast 400m with no 12 second final 100.
I think the first 2 100m splits are off but 21.3+22.9 makes sense
Quincy Wilson's rapid improvement reminds me of Michael Phelps back in 2000. A barely 15 yr old Phelps dropped a bunch of time to make the team. Dropped about a second more to finish 5th in Sydney. Then, within 6 months after the Olympics he had set his first world record at 15yr-9 mo. If Sydney Olympics were just a bit later, Phelps could have won gold at 5 different Olympics. Luckily, Wilson is going to be on at least one relay that is heavily favored for gold. I hope we are witnessing the beginning of annother phenomenal career.

I would back Rai over Quincy, agree on that.
Only thing to consider is that Quincy's PR and SB is now .22 faster than Chris Bailey's, as well as faster than Norwood's PR from last year and his SB.
So it leaves USATF with a choice - the guy who won at the Trials or the guy with the faster PR. Should be interesting to see what decision they make.
Realistically, any of the 4 of Deadmon, Wilson, Norwood, Bailey have claim to that last spot.
Wilson fastest PR and SB, Deadmon only .02 slower + more relay experience, Norwood best finish at global champs, and Bailey finished best at Trials.
Will be controversial either way. Agree that Lyles should piss off.
This is legit impressive. I thought, put him in the pool, let him run the mixed relay and learn from the experience. No way he could be on the men’s relay because of the nerves and how poorly he paced the final at Trials. But this is next level. I would let him run the prelims and if he pops a good one, have him in the final. What leg though? Maybe Lyles and his expertise can figure that out for everybody.
44.20! Holds off Bryce Deadmon in Gainesville. Unbelievable.
He reminds me of obea moore,a young phenom from the mid 90s. He ran 45.14 seconds as a 16 year old. Similar talent, and give moore super shoes he would have ran maybe 44.4.
