Doping is in all sports (at the highest level). If you ain’t cheating, you aren’t trying.
I disagree
Doping is prevalent in sports where it has significant and direct impact e.g. track, swimming, weightlifting, etc and also where opportunities to make money are scarce .
If you are a basketball player like Kevin Durant or Steph Curry and your success depends on your ability to shoot a basketball and you have guaranteed contracts, you would have to be dumb to dope. There is only a downside. These players are guaranteed to make money even 20 years after retirement. The only issue that could derail their earnings is being busted for doping. Now mind you even second tier basketball players make good money decades after retirement. You would have to be dumb to dope if you are an NBA player.
And if you are an aspiring NBA player, doping is still dumb. To make a roster spot as a role player, you need to certain things well like shooting or handling the ball under pressure or rebounding. Doping doesn't help any of those.
I use basketball as an example but the same applies to many other team sports. If you are a high level soccer player like Messi or Ronaldo, doping would also be dumb because you can still make good money by going to play at a lower level. Look at Messi and Ronaldo. As their abilities decline, instead of doping, they had the option of going to play in a lower league and still make good money. Messi is in Miami and Ronaldo is in Saudi Arabia.
Ur wrong, doping is way more prevalent in major sports. Their testing protocols are very flimsy. I know a baseb and a fb player that doped from hs to the pros, it's everywhere. How many whereabouts failures do bb nfl mlb players get? How many even get their blood tested? How many know exactly which date they will get tested? Educate yourself. Most d1 baseball football teams etc in ncaa are using peds
Did steroids help Larry Bird make those crazy shots from behind the backboard or help Magic make those crazy passes or help Tim Hardaway's crazy two step ?
Were steroids the reason why Dennis Rodman was so good at anticipating shots that he grabbed 15 rebounds per game.
Steroids make you faster and jump higher. They help if your role is to be an aggressive enforcer like Rodman. They help recovery between games. This isn’t chess, basketball is a physical game. Go back and watch Jordan in college then watch as his body changes through his pro years. It is worth a laugh.
Sorry Charlie. You are wrong. Steroids dont make you jump higher.
Rodmans team-mates like Isaiah Thomas have recently said Rodman was good because he spent hours studying video of each NBA player looking at their tendencies. How the ball bounces when they shooot etc. Rodman never had any jumping ability. He worked hard on his footwork. He studied video. And he used all kind of tricks to psych players out. He was excellent at getting under a players skin. He did this to Shaq, Alonzo and other big men easily.

You are wrong. Doping helps in every kind of sport and is found in every sport. It is in chess, championship darts, curling - anything that is a competition.
You missed the point. Yes doping can help in any sport however for some sports, doping is just dumb. The downside is too high.
There is a famous soccer player called Paul Pogba who has been banned for 4 years effectively ending his career. His decision to use dope was dumb. He was playing for the top team in Italy. If he was unable to maintain that level, he could have simply joined a lower team with lower expectations and still made good money. Instead he chose to dope and has now lost everything including future endorsements. Again a really dumb decision.
It is only a dumb decision if the athlete is caught. Most aren't. Only 1% tests return a positive but the numbers who dope are much higher. Doping generally pays off for those who choose to do it.
Three misguided apologists driving this thread. Team sports have as much or more doping than individual sports. Fewer individuals dope than legweak would have you believe - he isn't involved in the sport so hasn't a clue, just bleats from the sidelines ad nauseum.

Indeed! I predicted he would get to 30,000 before the Solstice and 31,000 before the Olympics. But that was easy for him. Can he get to 33,000 before the Closing Ceremony?

You are still too dumb to understand. Your posts fill YOUR days. It's only a matter of remembering a date and clicking on your handle to know the numbers.
Onwards and upwards, towards the elusive 33,000 before the end of the Games!

Steroids do make you jump higher. Anything that increases strength will do that. But they also help increase speed and then there are drugs that reduce fatigue. All good for basketball.

You're obsessed with my posting. It is the only thing you comment on. You make me feel like the Pied Piper of Hamelin.

I disagree with the doping in all sports narrative.
1) I grew up playing academy rugby (in the UK) for a premiership side. Many of my teammates went on to play in the premiership and at an international level, including two world cup winners. I retired at 18 because I lacked skill and was sick of being banged up.
The ONLY reason I got to where I got to was that my physical testing numbers were some of the best at the club. Not just for 17/18 year old boys, but for the men's team, too. I wasn't on steroids. I didn't see a suggestion of steroids at my club, and - given the nature of conversations we had about a certain international team (if you know, you know) and what their school boys were up to, I highly doubt anyone else was on them. There certainly wasn't a club level doping policy.
2) To continue the point above, Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the greatest physical specimens in football. This documentary, shot when Ronaldo was 26 - the height of his physical prime - gives the following metrics: at 13:52, his vertical jump is 30.5" with a two step run up; at 4:00 he's beaten by 0.25 seconds over 25m by a 10.6 sprinter. You can check the numbers here if you don't believe them:
That's all you need to athletically dominate the biggest sport on the planet. What exactly would the doping be for? Recovery, maybe?
3) Back to rugby, I've discussed steroids with old teammates and strength and conditioning coaches. If they're lying then it's pathological. They'd have no reason to. It's the semi-pro levels that sees insane amounts of steroid use, and you can tell just looking at half the lads.
I'm sure some are sauced to the gills, but I think people grossly underestimate how far genes can take you - as I'll get to below.
4) My second sport: rowing. On a squad of 25 athletes (taken through a trial process, most with backgrounds from other sports) it became apparent to me quite early on that whilst I was in the top 5ish, the top 2 were miles beyond me. One of them was an athletic freak who worked his backside off and went on to win an Olympic medal a few years after graduating. The other - my housemate during my third year of university - was a demi-god straight out of Greek verse who lived like Dionysus. He was about the equal of my other teammate, despite going out 3 nights per week, rarely sleeping in his own bed, living off pizzas and protein shakes, never doing optional sessions / steady state work, and missing summer training blocks to travel round South East Asian.
This squad won international regattas with this kid in the first VIII.
Genetics are brutal.
5) Rowing is the most highly funded sport on many Olympic programmes. As mentioned, my former teammate was in the squad which won in 2016. His 2km was marginally faster than it was when we were students. I can say with little to no doubt that they weren't doping then, when they were the most successful squad at the games. If they weren't doping, and other GB sports were, then the question has to be asked: why?
