Lol. Everyone talks about "unsigned" and "unsponsored" athletes as though no brand has any interest, but it's always a negotiation. The only reason for someone like Valby to be unsigned is because no brand has met her demands yet. I'd be surprised if she isn't the highest paid distance runner in the country when she does sign.
As for the OP's question, I generally agree that more American track runners should explore the marathon, but it's certainly premature for Valby. She's still running big track PRs, she hasn't proven she can handle the mileage, and nobody knows what kind of speed she has because she has sensibly just run away from most of her competition. You can have 55-second 400 speed, but in order to express it, you need to have some anaerobic energy left in the tank going into the last lap, and she rarely does.
