He’s allowed to be disappointed in the outcome even if the outcome is defined. The time standard is objective but the world ranking is subjective. He beat Graham, Teare, Hocker at the trials as well as beating Nico at NCAAs. Completely likely he could have gotten a high enough world ranking.
The WA ranking system is anything but subjective. Go to the site and read exactly how rankings are calculated. Nothing subjective about it. All athletes are ranked based on the same rules and formula. And it takes more than one race to move up high enough in the rankings.
It’s subjective in so much as some meets count for more points than others and only one indoor race is allowed. Effectively, WA is saying indoor races “really aren’t as good as outdoor races,” but that’s where Blanks got his qualifier. Also, if Parker was able to use two indoor races, then he’d be going to Paris based on points.
Ultimately, this most definitely isn’t Blanks’ fault, and we should all be rooting for him. Also, Wolfe should’ve simply found a meet to run the standard, because we all know he was capable of it. But to say the WA ranking system *isn’t* subjective is disingenuous.
He was in the race when Blanks hit the standard. Wolfe just isn't fast enough.
This may be asking a lot but just TRY to think a little bit. That race was over 6 months ago and Wolfe has had an enormous leap in fitness since then. 3:36/3:54 (1:54 last 800)/7:37 solo/13:19 solo outdoors (2:59 last 1200). He just took down nico young at NCAA’s who has run 12:57 and 26:52, and I don’t want to hear about it being tactical because nico has demonstrated he can kick this year.
The relative weights of the IAAF World Ranking system are not mathematically determined by the quality of the fields but set in advance arbitrarily. In that sense, the system is subjective, a judgment call.

And you’re really going to argue that a guy who ran 13:10 closing in 55 in 80 degrees barely behind fisher and nur can’t run under 13:05 in a time trial? Please bro lol

I keep hearing people saying the world ranking is subjective. I don't think you guys know what subjective means. Nobody's judging athlete's performances. It's a completely transparent ranking system, with a table for points based on your time plus additional performance points for placing in highly competitive meets. The performance points system is also completely transparent and based on specific criteria for meet competitiveness. And if you want to bypass all of the uncertainty of whether someone else will run faster and bump you off the list, you can simply run a really fast time. Nine other Americans chose this route.
In a recent Citius Mag interview, Parker Valby said that her coach did the math BEFORE having her run the 10K to be sure that if she did get top 3 she would qualify even without the standard. It seems like Parker Wolfe's coach could have done the same math and not set his athlete up for disappointment. Or maybe Parker Wolfe could have asked for some help and figured it out himself. I have sympathy for his situation, but at the same time the rules have been in place for a while now, and if he is surprised or disappointed it is really his own fault. He had opportunities to get in races this spring and try to get the standard. It's a tough lesson, but it really is on him.
Wolf and his coach failed. Wolf didn't hit the standard. He isn't fast enough. Nothing worse than fans who claim their guy can do something that he has never done. Give it up. Wolfe is great in outkicking guys but he isn't fast enough and would be lost in a fast race. He should have gone with Fisher. Oh wait, he couldn't. He isn't fast enough.

You know, I am just old. I ran in college way back in the 90s/00s. We had a different way of talking about the guys winning big races back then, especially the guys who raced like warriors. We respected them them supported them. I hate what I read on this forum. You people are miserable wretches. Do you even like the sport of track and field?
Yes. Blanks raced like a warrior when he spanked Wolfe enroute to getting the standard. Now he comes back off of injury to qualify for the Olympics. He is a stud.

I just don't understand how an athlete can have a hope of making the Olympic team and get on the starting line at the US trials not knowing where they stand on qualifying.

I agree. 100% I am just saying you can be excited for Blanks and think he is a beast without being a jerk to Wolfe. It's like you people have let the political binary infect everything in your life.
Nobody here is talking to him. We are talking to each other. You can't be rude to someone who you are not dealing with. It is tiring to have people claim that Wolfe should go to the Olympics. It is tiring to have people claim he can run times that he has not run. I don't know either guy and don't like or dislike either of them.
