There’s no doubt she’s finished as a 1500 threat, but what concerns me even more was her performance in the Tokyo marathon. Maybe age has caught up with her all of a sudden? Just a year ago she was a global medalist in the 1500 and won Chicago soon after. Could it be that she’s washed up in a span of less than 12 months? I hope not. Watching her today gave me the same feeling I got watching Kipchoge in Tokyo this year. A sense of profound sadness at the passing of an era. Well, that’s the cycle of sports. Ok, hoping this feeling of sadness is misplaced and she will duel Obiri for the win in the Paris marathon.

Could just be something as simple as she’s overdoing it. Too many marathon miles in her legs whilst also training for 10ks and 1500m. Like others have said - the range is too broad. She’s tried to do too much. She clearly pushes herself to her max
Hopefully she’ll have fresh legs for the Olympics but she’d be wise not to do all the events she has planned.
You might need to close in 4:04 to medal in the 10k if it's tactical enough. I don't think there was ever a plan to run the 1500m. The marathon is the title she hasn't won yet and a world marathon title won't do it. Another London title won't do it. No gaurentee she's as good as she is in '28, there may be 3 2:10 women by then. She should go all in on the marathon.
Without speed she'll get rocked by Kipyegon, Chebet and Tsegay in the 5000 closing laps. She could possibly snag third behind Chebet and Tsegay in the 10k. Doing only that or the marathon is her best bet for a medal, imo
After the race, Hassan said she made a mistake in the warming up. Said she always needs a lot of warmup but started too early, then cooled down too much during the long wait in the callroom. Knew it wasn't going to be fast right from the start.
Was also asked about her plans for Paris but said she doesn't know yet.

This was a major test for her and she... couldn't warm up correctly? Seems either unprofessional, like poor coaching, or like an excuse

Yeah but during a pre meet interview Hassan hinted very strongly that she is running the marathon. That's the way the writer interpreted it and so did I.
Hassan said she has studied the course and has been working on running downhill. When a reporter asked if the elevation changes benefitted her late kick style, Hassan mostly deflected the question but said both uphill and downhill present problems.
It certainly sounded like the marathon has been a major part of her thought process. She concluded by saying the Paris marathon would be madness.
After Hassan withdrew from the 10,000 due to high winds she said she had been training two months for the 10,000 and wanted to run fast in the Netherlands, but it simply wasn't possible in those conditions.
Today she dismissed Kipyegon's 3:49 by saying she can do that too. In fact, during the Saturday interview after withdrawing from the 10,000, Hassan said I'll see you tomorrow after resetting the 1500 world record.
Despite the poor race I think she is being underestimated. Is anybody really going to be shocked if Sifan Hassan goes with the pace in any of those events? She is 31 not 35. Bolt, Phelps and others fully understood the vast gap between those two numbers as ultra elite athlete.
