His start was beastly--no perfection, just absolute unilateral-looking power. It seems like he ran out of the blocks, with no two-foot push at the very start, although I can't really tell from the vid. But his block position was a running position, and he just laid it down!
I don't ever recall in all my years having seen a guy accelerate in that manner. Bolt didn't do it. Mo Greene is the closest I can think of.
It would be interesting to see how much distance he covered with his first, say, 5 or 7 strides, compared to Greene, and compared to others.

I'd consider him a glass cannon. He pulled up in his season opener this year as well. But this could be a great Olympic Finals with 3 Jamaicans and 3 Americans plus Tebogo and Omanyala. The good news for Lyles? He will be in 9.7 shape come the Olympics. The bad news? Thompson is already in 9.7 shape and Seville might be as well.
