We merged 3 threads into 1. The 1st thread was started by a poster posting under the name Marisa MF Howard and was titled, "Some of the grittiest racing I've ever seen at the women's 3k Steeple". This thread was started by Rojo and we kept his title as it's a little more descriptive. THe third thread was started by Wejo and entitled, "What the #$@#: Val Constien 9:03, Courtney Wayment 9:06, Marisa Howard 9:07"
The Rocky Mountain reference escapes me, and I come to this board not infrequently.
You have to spend a lot of time on the High School boards to get it.
They have a Rocky has a bunch of parents/fans/students (no one really knows exactly who it is) who go on the board and hype themselves up and talk about how they got robbed of an at-large bid to NXN in 2022.
The reaction on the boards is to hate everything Rocky related
Markezich was trying to move into second on the inside at the last water jump. Her back foot clipped the hurdle and she landed awkwardly. It looked like she injured her knee right there. When she tried to land on that leg over the last hurdle, her knee just gave out and she collapsed. Damn!! She limped across the lawn if you watch. She would have been battling for those last two spots with her own 10 second pr. Great race and she still got a 3 second PR
And a rather odd one at that. She was doing a weird side-step before jumping over a barrier. You knew it was a just a matter of time before the peloton swallowed her up and spit her out the back.
But props to her again, for setting up what became a historic USA steeple race.

Sorry to hear that. Hope it is not a serious knee injury to add to OAC’s misfortune.
Her personal best before 2024 was 9:18. Her last 1000m in 2:54 shows she has more to give, she stay healthy and we may have two additional U.S. women to join the sub 9 minute Steeple club. That would be AWESOME 👍
Not gonna lie. I was looking up her stats mid-race to make sure I knew who the hell she was.
Prior to the Trials, she'd raced twice and hadn't won either race and hadn't broken 9:30 in either race. In her last race, she ran 9:34.01 for 4th at Portland Track Festival on June 9th.
How in the hell did she do that? Incredible. It's the type of thing you see in some corny movie that's not real.
Solid result. Even previous greats had their breakout races. Is Constein still coached by Wetmore / Burroughs? Another Colorado high schooler from the mountains, just like Coburn.
What in the hell was happening with Rodenfels approach to the barriers? The first time I saw it, it looked like a misstep. Then she just kept doing it. Goucher didn’t even know what to say.
