I just watched the interview and legitimately have no idea what the criticism is for. She was appropriately respectful and repeatedly used words like grateful/thankful/proud of myself/happy to be here. The only response that could possibly be construed as “snappy” or like the reporter was asking the wrong question was the first one where the interviewer assumed she’d been targeting the Olympic standard, and I believe her when she says she wasn’t, she was just giving herself her best shot and that means running 14:50ish from the front in her current shape. She got the same question after the NCAA 5k and answered that she wasn’t targeting the standard, so that may be where the “again”comes from, though in fairness the interviewer may not have seen that.
I just think she'd be prettier if she smiled more.
You may be thinking of her cringy interviews on the infield with Jon Anderson. He’s a cheesy boomer and she plays along with his softball questions. Her mix zone answers are what the latest video showed. She’ll have to clean it up a bit.
There are reasons why I have the opinion of Valby that I do. She comes off as a fame seeker.
What did she do or say in that interview that came off a fame-seeker to you? It looked to me like she didn't want to be there and just wanted the interview to end. That's not the demeanor of someone seeking more attention.
I thought everything was fine including almost all of the questions. Valby was more subdued than I expected. That means she really wanted to make this team and thought she had a legitimate chance.
Parker Valby is amazing, what gusts. Reminds me of a young Pre. She is also probably on her way to the Olympics since Elle St. Pierre in her interview doubts that she will double. Way to go Valby :)

And THAT is exactly why you run all out for every place. She had to do 2 things, keep the pace honest and make the standard, combined with her supposed lack of kick...she did precisely what every coach on the planet would have recommended. She ran Olympic standard pace and safely where she is used to running. Should she have run in the pack, 15 mim plus pace and sit and kick the pros? Im more impressed with her now than ever. She executed the most likely plan to get her on the team, she pressed hard to stay attached, but in the end she needed KS or Cranny to maybe have an off day. She did what she could.
yeah, i wish she'd say or do anything that suggested humility, interest in the sport as a whole, or knowledge/respect of her competitors. look, there are high schoolers and college sophomores at the trials with more grace, humility and clear love of the sport than her, and yet everyone gives her a pass. i guarantee she doesn't know the names of most of her competitors. she's admitted she didn't watch the last olympics. i hope she does get to paris just so she can get a taste of what the real world is like.

Aren't the questions about targeting the standard kind of stupid anyway? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought her world ranking was high enough in the 5K that she'd get in with or without the standard.

Exactly. 4th place and there's zero guarantee all 3 ahead of her will be competing in the 5000. Not only did she make this an honest race, I loved that she still fought even after ESP, Cranny and Schweizer overtook her near the end.
vehemently disagree. the overwhelming majority of her interviews are very telling: she's cut from that same cloth as mcgee and all the other spoiled daddy's girls from U of F. it's an attitude of "i'm better than you". no matter how pretty she is, her tone and attitude completely neutralizes it.
Post race interviews are for the victors, not the runner-ups. When the non-winner, in this case, Parker, gives her interview -- she is not at her emotional best -- and she does herself no favors by struggling through the questions. (Body language says she is hurting -- so leave the girl alone.)
Valby and all non winners should say:
"Hey, it's Elle's day -- my congratulation to her and her coach!"
