For all the disappointment and criticism that Drew Hunter has faced in his pro career, that was one hell of a gutsy race. You could tell he was hurting, but he surprised everyone by competing with the top dogs the entire race.
He wasn’t going to make the Olympic 10k team, but he earned a hell of a lot of respect from me. He’s finally had a healthy season in what feels like forever. Really rooting for the guy to put together multiple years of healthy training together and see if he can regain the talent we know he is.
When you think about who he was running with those last couple laps--what they've done this season and previous years--you've got to admit that was an impressive run. I wish there was a wild card olympic entry for the most impressive effort of the meet, because I'd give it to him.
CONGRATS to Drew Hunter that was an inspiring gritty performance. He thought he was a 1500m, now he knows his potential is the 5 and 10, just hope he didn't waste too much time with the 1500m.

He said in that he knew he was a 5/10 guy for years but couldn't do the mileage for it due to injury
Drew Hunter talked about how he wants to continue to proving he belongs after finishing in a close fourth place in the men's 10,000m at the 2024 U.S. Olympic...
His running style is like a manic race walker. He has one foot on the ground every stride. It’s heroic he can run that fast. Not like Chelimo, who’s back kick leaves the imprint of his soles on his shorts.
Drew has another shot at this in 4 years. He'll be 30 then but not unheard of for someone to qualify at that age. The 10000m is still relatively soft and top heavy. No reason he can't make it next time if he stays committed.
After seeing that performance, I'm surprised that no one has said he should move up to the marathon yet.
Unfortunately that form would never ever hold up over 26.2. Also, he discusses even being able to get to 10K type mileage. I actually in all these years , I had really never heard him speak. This guy has taken a ton of s-i- on the internet, the curse of running fast early. I think he is easy to root for.
Guy ran his heart out. Looked like a mess doing it too.
It’s really not good that everyone is saying “he ran the race of his life,” while running an even-paced 27:53. It’s 1:20 slower than Grant’s PR, and 1:00 slower than Nico’s.
Wish Grant was wearing a heart monitor. Good tune up for the 5K I guess.
Well has he ever placed higher than 4th at the trials? Then it's the race of his life.
The dude fought like hell, and looked he had been hurting from 4K to go. He definitely gave way more than anyone around him, and it was inspiring to see him give the 10K a go after being so locked in on the 1500 for years. That’s no easy jump.
I hope he enjoys a few races this fall with his recent breakthrough in fitness and consistent training.
God bless you, Drew!
I think folks that see a 3:35 13;08 guy run like that? And trash him? Should be ashamed of themselves
Agreed but I don't think he cares at all. Hunter is a 13:08 guy. The dweebs who trash him are like gum underneath his shoe. Not worth even considering.
He may finish his career with nothing, but he deserves our respect.
For all those who trash Drew Hunter
His contract his coaching
That was a good effort
He is what he his , I give him credit
That was an amazing race. I’m a new Drew Hunter fan! Could someone give me a brief two sentence history on him? Has he made or been close to making 1500 teams in the past? What about his coaching has been controversial?
