XC guys win 24 points in the best case 800/1600/3200/4x800 and then lose literally every single other point to the others. They might even lose a point or 2 in the 800 since there are some football players who are good at the 800 and XC runners aren't automatically amazing at 800 unless they train for it.
3 sprinters alone easily match and exceed the XC score with 100/200/400/sprint relays/LJ/TJ.
This would be quite fun..
I ran cross country... Well just because. Even though I was more of a 400/800 type.
I ended up running the 200 (6th), 400 (1st), 800 (1st), and Long Jump (3rd) at state as a senior.
I think the odds that anyone else in the school beating me at those events would have been slim.
The rest of the cross country kids could likely handle and sweep the 800 so I would of been available to snag points for us in the 400, LJ, 200, 4X4.
Would each participant be limited to just 4 events? In thin hypothetical scenario I probably had a good shot at snagging a top 3 finish in the 300 M hurdles, and though a bit more of a long shot, a top 3 finish in the high jump as well.
