At least 7 centuries. He is a once in a millennia runner that only deserves the most praise. Truly the goat of any sport, over Mahomes, Brady, Jordan, and Gretsky (in that order).

You think he could start a music career?
Didn't even realize he won world indoors 2016, now that's a career. 2016 worlds was better than 2024 for the men because of the two Golds (1500m, 800m) and the two Silvers (3000m) vs the 1 Gold, 2 Silver, 1 Bronze. Two good showings nonetheless.
The ultimate cool move. That Matt!
There’s only 12 in heat 1
Though I take pleasure in being right (see CENTRO'S NOT DONE YET thread), I would have happily been wrong.
Imagine seeing him in contention at the bell on Monday night...
"And at the bell, Kessler leads from Nuguse, Hocker in third, Waskom fourth and right behind him Matthew Centrowitz. Does the former Olympic champ still have a little magic left?" All of us would have believed, even if just for a moment.
Congrats to Matt on an incredible career. He did America proud and will forever be an Olympic Champion.
Any announcement from Centro.
Citius simply read the status of entries and created their own announcement.
Sick??
Injured???
Something else???
People saw him pick up his credentials yesterday. Others saw him in town and he seemed upbeat and excited to compete. What changed overnight?
Reality
Great career Centro, To the Gills!🍸
That truly sucks. It was a long shot bid to make the team, but a shot nevertheless. Apart from his many achievements, Centro is an athlete with charisma. The trials just got a tiny bit less interesting.
Yep, who knows with these clowns. Could be code for vax stuff, PEDs, or whatever. They’re too dim-witted to write anything that has any semblance to intelligible thought.
If this is true, can we at least give him a ceremonious victory lap at the Trials? Geez...
His signature form was known for being silky smooth no matter how fast he was going. He still looked like a jog in that last lap but he was flying!
Maybe it’s just me but I don’t feel sad about this at all. Centro is an all-time great and he had a great career. It’s totally fine, even laudable, to step aside and let someone else have their moment in the sun. Best of luck to him figuring out what comes next.
If Yared Nuguse had more of a killer mindset he would have a chance.
Bummed I didn't see his 1500M gold live. I was at a Jimmy Buffett concert in Mansfield, MA, and I found out from texts from friends while waiting in line to pee. I still get chills watching the video (of Centro - though Buffett was great, RIP).
No one can ever take away an Olympic Gold. What a legacy. Son of a son of a sailor.
He was sponsored/getting paid to train for this. He rode it until the end. Im not sure he had any intention to actually competing. He had a great and long career but he is no longer competitive on the world stage. Perhaps its better to go out with a little mystery.
What will the Centro hater cretins do now? Ice cream cake with mom in her basement for sure tonight.

That means that Matt Sr. is your grand daddy!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
One of my favorite runners. A controversial figure on here, but at the end of the day he always got it done. I was lucky enough to talk to him and get a selfie with him after his 800 at Stanford this year. Could not have been a nicer guy.
His legacy is obviously gonna be that 2016 Olympic gold, and who wouldn't be happy with that?
