This is ridiculous. She was one of the coaches that recruited Rai Benjamin and Michael Norman at USC, and helped assemble one of the most talented quarter mile rosters i've seen in years recently. She is a knowledgable, experienced, and talented coach who will bring the UCLA track and field program back to greatness. There is a shocking amount of negativity, with many points of contention that are completely unsubstantiated. At a certain point, you have to wonder how much of it is resentment from failed college coaches towards a successful black woman in a position of leadership.
UCLA would never hire a distance Director. It doesn’t make sense. Love distance, but sorry no. They could have hired a sprint director who saw value in putting money in distance. Different discussion.
From a track perspective in a conference that has both UW & Oregon it doesn't make much sense to put money into distance... if you want to win track meets that is.
Larsen was a distance guy but when he was hired as Head track coach he rarely put money into distance because he was being paid to win track meets and knew how to do it.
I agree with concerning the negativity. Associate Coach of the year. The current and past track athletes are saddened by her departure. I think this was a fantastic hire.
Black women are amazing, and I fully support them being put in leadership positions. This is not what this is about. But your comments are incorrect. She did not do those things. CSG is an amazing recruiter and that’s who got it done ant USC. Hayes has been a volunteer longer than a paid coach. Volunteers were not even allowed to participate in those activities, nor did they have to put in the hours. Assembled the quarter mile roster…funny. Hayes is a great coach. No doubt. But that doesn’t mean she was qualified for this job.
But the conference has USC and Iowa and Nebraska and Ohio State on the sprint and field side also. There is no easy path.
As has been pointed out, Nebraska is anything but a sprint power. Iowa has faded markedly in in the sprints/hurdles over the past couple of seasons and was never close to USC's level at any point. Ohio State does indeed spend a lot on the sprints and gets little return.USC has talent, funding and weather that will be impossible for any B10 school to overcome in the sprints and very tough to beat overall.
Home run hire for hiring a coach simply because she’s a black women. Not for being qualified
Nah she's an Olympic gold medalist with power 5 experience go cry in your basement and pretend you deserve jobs you won't work for.
It is crazy to me with her credentials as an athlete and coaching experience, some actually believe this is a bad hire and yearn for a guy who did nothing as an athlete (well, I guess he claimed he did) and coached high school for 5 years.
A federal appeals court panel suspended the Fearless Fund grant program for Black women business owners. The lawsuit claimed that it violates federal civil rights law. That's a cynical weaponization of the law and ignores lon...
Well I have posted this is a ridiculous hire and I have never even met Brosnan nor do I care to meet him. They hired a black women because she’s a black women. It doesn’t take a genius to figure that out. I stand by the obvious

The AD is a true clown. The man was interviewing last year at Ohio. He doesn’t even want to be at UCLA. The hire was obvious. I don’t think anyone wished the new coach ill. They are just stating the obvious.
