At the 2010 national meet (or one of them; can't remember if there was more than one) there were at least 5 teams 10:00 or better. Three of them were from NY (Warwick, Liverpool, Burnt Hills), one was from NJ (Rosa brothers), and a team from CT with a hot anchor leg won it in 9:56 or so.
Probably close to being on-par with yesterday's race, factoring in the super-shoes.
Yikes that's insane. To be fair, with anchors all around him, I think Griffith splits sub 4. He was isolated for most of his race.

Yup, it was 2010. 5 teams under 10:00 with another 10:00.0 and two more at 10:04, 2:59 the fastest leadoff, 1:51 the fastest 800, and 4:05 the fastest anchor. Hamden the winner. The biggest difference in that race was the anchors, except for the winning team the top 8 were all 4:09-4:13.
The other sub-10 team in that race was from York (IL).
Without looking it up, that was Chris Fitzsimmons from Hamden, I am pretty sure he ran 4:05
Rosa, one of them from NJ,
Tim Luthin Warwick
Savage Liverpool
Ubriaco Burnt Hills, had to look him up
Were the anchors
Mike Potter an incredible coach from Warwick, who I have not seen for way to long is a friend of mine.
You know how good Potter was when they broke 8:00 in the 4x8 every year for decades under him and right after he left they immediately faded into obscurity.
Are you sure Savage was the anchor? I thought he would've run the 800.

Confirmed from a Mile split article..Colin Savage, Zavon Watkins on lead off. Thought he would be a great one, whatever happened?

If I had a nickel for every time a teenage phenom in the 800 didn't improve significantly for the rest of their career...I don't know how many nickels I'd have but it would be a lot.

Watkins split under 1:48 as a sophomore in HS. Was great but occasionally erratic in his junior and senior years, then went to Penn State and disappeared.
Back to that 2010 relay... the Rosa that didn't anchor went sub-3 on the leadoff. I think Watkins might've, too. Warwick had a 1:51.x 800 leg (Armand), Burnt Hill had a 1:52.x (Fernandez). Scott Maughn, a 1:57 / 4:16 (1600) guy, opened with a 3:03 for Burnt Hills - that still blows my mind. What a race!

Honestly did not look it up but maybe just came to me, did he go to Penn State? Checking now.

Scored in Big Ten Indoors a few times, "only" ran 1:48.11 I thought he would run faster.

Watkins was 3:00, it was a close race. About 16 hours after his 1:47. Interestingly, only one of the top 6 had a 400 leg under 50 seconds. This past weekend only one of the top 6 didn't have a 400 leg under 50 seconds.
How tf did Alan Webb just randomly have a 1:49 guy on his team in 2003?? That had to be a transfer or something.
I think the splits on Webb's DMR record team were something like 3:03 - 50 - 1:56.x - 3:59.x. There wasn't a 1:49 talent on that squad (other than Webb, of course).

Richard Smith was not a transfer. He was a 1:49 talent (actually 1:48.9) but he did that in 2002 as a senior. In 2001 he ran 1:52 and 4:14, and he ran the 1200 on their DMR.
