This is the funny thing about this. It really is a simple thing but it seems to bring out people's own personal idiosyncrasies. I think the GPS watch and Strava mess it up because suddenly you're going live on social media as soon as you hit start. It's embarrassing to admit but I've definitely found myself feeling this way and altering my watch etiquette because of it. Old Timex days were much simpler: don't even start the watch on easy days and split the watch for workouts. Now though, I'm so dug into my ways on strava I'm not sure I could go back. Nice to hear how other people differ/line up though!
I've definitely felt a bit of "Strava pressure" at times, but really, I just think, "What's most useful to me?"
Knowing my avg pace, distance, and moving time are reasonably accurate on an easy run is nice to know. So I stop my watch at lights and stuff, or if I have to walk for some reason, like to a bathroom. This is super easy to do and somewhat helpful, so I make a reasonable effort to make sure my easy runs are "clean."
Knowing my watch's avg pace, distance, and moving time is not really helpful when I run reps. I don't care what my average pace is if I run 1,000m repeats with a standing rest, I care about the rep times and rest times.
