We changed the title which initially said Fred was dropped by Asics. SInce the statement says they mutually agreed to part ways, we changed it to that.
ASICS made great sprint spikes until recently when they decided to discontinue the Sonic Sprint Elite 2 (pebax plate) and offer only the new carbon fiber model (the ones Fred wore.) It appears ASICS is greatly de-emphasizing sprinting. Some people prefer nylon plates and some people have been injured sprinting in carbon fiber sprint spikes.
Your response is a tad immature, and inconsiderate. Old age taking its effects on you?
This is a running website, and it is of general interest to fans of track and field.
If this were a messageboard for NFL fans, there would be a discussion over one of the top athletes getting dropped by their sponsor midway through a lucrative deal out of nowhere, mid season.
BREAKING: Just heard back from a spokesperson for ASICS after Fred Kerley’s appearance at the New York City Grand Prix wearing competitor spikes: Statement: “ASICS and Fred Kerley have mutually parted ways and he is no longer an ASICS sponsored athlete. We wish him the best in his career.” via Chris Chavez on twitter

Meh who cares.
Exactly.
Nobody’s answered the question: WHY do you care? This is not an issue of athletic performance.
You guys need to get lives, and leave the idolatry, salaciousness, and perversion at home.

We care because we love track. There are threads constantly about where Nico and Valby are going to sign as pros. Lots of discussion when athletes leave Bowerman or other groups. It’s interesting to see what brand they affiliate with and more importantly which coach they end up with as it has a big effect on their careers. As a side note, it’s a weird thing for you to be defensive about.

As JGault said in his 10 Years At Let's Run retrospective piece a week or so ago, the shoes an athlete wears really matter because that will inform what meets he or she runs in, what meets he or she targets in the season, and a bunch of other things I don't remember.
So the shoe an athlete wears means a lot and can form how they structure their season.

FYI I asked Kerley's agent Ricky Simms about when and why Kerley and Asics parted ways and what kit he plans on wearing at the Trials. This is what he told me:
"Fred and Asics recently decided to part ways. He does not have a new sponsorship agreement. He is free to wear his choice of footwear and apparel for now."
Fred also stated(secondhand) that the custom spikes he received from Asics werent up to par, and the plate even snapped his first time practicing in them. He does not want to be their guinea pig. Wasn’t stated WHEN exactly he received those spikes but it seems to be recent
