Unless I've missed it, I haven't seen any discussion of this on here: for the Trials, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone has registered not only for the 400h, but for the 400 flat and even the 200.
I'm not sure how this fits with her recently saying she was only running the 400h at the Olympics. Is she thinking of using the other events at the trials just as a workout?
To clarify what you wrote, Sydney and Kersee didn't say that she was only going to run the 400h at the Olympics. They said she would run only the 400h at the Trials.
So you wanted to know why is she now entered in 3 events in the Trials? Because they lied, that's how. And lots of people believed them about her only running the 400h at the Trials. Haven't people learned by now not to trust anything that Sydney and Kersee say?
So why did they lie? Probably because they were tired of answering the question about what event or events she's running at the Trials.
So for anyone who believed them, you have now learned to not believe them in the future.
Did they say she was running only the 400 hdls or did they say she was focusing on the 400 hdls.
I didn't pay attention because I disregard anything Kersee says- and I have since the mid 1980's.
Re Prandini/Kersee, he has always had a select 'inner circle' that get the juice 'not from concentrate'. You know, the stuff with all the real fruit bits in it, freshy squeezed. Those those that aren't in the inner circle get the crappy concentrate stuff, that's been processed & filtered & evaporated. He learned that lesson a long time ago when ex athletes of his like Angela Bailey & Darrell Robinson opened their mouths to tell the truth.
And don't forget, when asked in 22 or 23 why McLaughlin didn't race much, he said she was like a fine sports car, and you didn't take that out of the garage every day for a drive did you? Meanwhile poor old Prandini was popping up all over the European Circuit. I guess he viewed her as a useless old banger.
Inner circle aside, clearly McLaughlin cannot and will not run all 3 events at the Trials, but I do believe he is keeping his options open and don't be surprised to see her in more than one event. The outcome of the NYC Grand Prix will have some impact on his decision, and by that I don't just mean Sydney's time, but also the results of others.
Kersee is egotistical, and he wants to make history. He failed in his bid to take Felix to double Olympic glory, and now he has his hands on this super talent, he wants as many golds as he can realistically get without risking injury.
She may run 48.3-48.5 in the 400M this weekend in NY and that may change her plans for the Trials and Olympics. Also with that speed she will be unchallenged in the 400Mh.
Swimming fan boys always forget this: 1) there is an event limit for track and field athletes, none for swimming. 2) swimming gets the benefit of moving across a specific distance in a variety of different ways, not just freestyle. So if track and field allowed more than 4 events per meet, and offered something like "one leg hoping," backwards running, etc. how many golds and world records would Sydney have?
She’s less interesting to me than are most rocks. I am literally more interested in drone racing.
Felix 2.0. Talented. Fast. And boring.
Next.
Boring is not the right word. And Felix is not the right comparison. What world record did Felix hold?
Her 400mH record is hands down the most impressive women’s record on the books in this era of sprints.
400mH isn't a sprint.
And her 400mH record is nowhere near the most impressive--yes there is a big gap back to 2nd, but the 100, 200, and 400 records have stood for an eternity. Even Privalova's 60m has lasted for 30 years.
If otoh you mean the most impressive set in "this era", I would observe that it is the ONLY one set in "this era"--but again, it's not a sprint.
But you're right, boring is not the right word: crushingly boring is more accurate. There is literally not one second of free mental time during which SML pops into my head, unlike other sprinters and WR-holders, and even 400mH athletes. There are plenty of ways to transit 200 or 400m that are faster than SML. What SHOULD be interesting about it is that it is SHE who is doing it--but, like Felix before her, I give it a big meh. She is eminently suburban in attitude, a total dud, not someone about whom anything appears actually interesting. Just a palette of beige, the expected suburban pablum.
Lame. Heck, even SCR is way more interesting, and she hasn't even gone to an OG yet. Kambundji is more interesting. Tarsis Orogot and Sani-Brown are even more interesting--and Sani-Brown has to be the finals guy with the absolute least visibility EVER!!
SML, who cares. I will be watching for Bol and Dos Santos in the 400mH, Tebogo in the 100 and 200, Gardiner in the 400, etc. EVEN CHRISTIAN COLEMAN IS MORE INTERESTING.

You proclaim “Next!” as if you’re some god that is owning everyone. I just read a bunch of long-winded drivel.
Probably just keeping her options open right now while they consider what to run at the trials. If she does decide to run the 200 it might be to help her use her influence to get into the 4x1 so she can pick up a easy medal. It's worked for Gabby and Alyson Felix and even Noah when he wasn't running 100s as seriously.
There is no way she is getting a sniff at the 4x1 w/o running at least one open 100m. The 100m is the biggest event in track and field, there is no way an athlete who thinks they could run a fast 100m who would not have done couple of them by now. There is a lot of specific work required to run a fast 100m, block starts, acceleration drills, etc., Sys does not have time for that. With that said, I think she can run faster in 200m but that is because she is a mid-48 400m sprinter who is stepping down. All great 400m sprinters can run a fast 200m.
Really? Well who can be more inner circle than Allyson Felix? And if he was giving her the good stuff, then the good stuff needs to be revamped coz clearly it didn't work.

Sydney would have about 30 golds and 20 world records.

One of the stupidest things posted here. And that's taking into account what rojo said yesterday about Bol's performance and that rekurunner (sp) guy continue to spout about drug cheats.

Yeah agree with this analysis. I don't see her in the 100 either. She does have a chance at the 200M but I don't see her taking that distance seriously at a global championship level. It appears to me she's just using the shorter sprint for foot speed work; and she should be able to run quite a respectable 200 if she can run a good 400. The USA 200/400/400H team weak and thus provide further opportunities for her.

But he’s Sprintgeezer! He’s the authority about all things sprinting!
