You don't see this sort of tomfoolery on the roads, ridiculous.
Looks stupid.
Without this cheating Jacob lost again.
There is nothing cheating about it. It shows that 1) Jakob has low intelligence and 2) doesn't understand the negative risk exposure he assumed by it.
Fractured arm or dislocated should would end his Olympic Dream for the year. What he did was stupid.
The only thing dumber than saying "it's cheating" is saying "Jakob has low intelligence" because you think he make a conscious decision to risk breaking his arm for this win. Was there a risk? Absolutely. Did he consciously make the decision to take that risk? Did he dive to create buzz online, or because there's a bonus in his contract if he wins in a dive? Come on....
Very, VERY few people plan ahead or make a conscious decision to dive over the line and put their body at risk like that. They are leaning, which is appropriate and prudent at the end of a race, and in the split second(s) near the end of the race they lean a little farther than their body can sustain and they end up losing balance. Fatigue is no doubt a factor in whether a lean results in losing balance, as well as the subtle proprioception of a person right next to you making you think you should / can lean further than your body can sustain. Sometimes the person's finishing place is improved by losing their balance, other times it is not. Very, VERY few people are making conscious decisions about diving at the line.

So Jakob not only races regularly he even cares so much about winning a non-champ meet he actually dives over the winning line!
Sydni and Athing would likely have pulled up down the backstraight when Bol or Hodgk were on their shoulder. Citing commonsensical "precautions".
Another block in the great man's legacy wall. Athletics needs him Bol and Keely opening a can of old-fashioned whoopass on all the princesses of athletics.
Risky? For sure. Even higher risk to reward in the buildup to the Olympics this year? Definitely. Advisable in broader view of this outdoor season? Absolutely not.
But he certainly had something to gain. He took home the win on his home track in front of his home crowd with that dive. That was obviously incredibly important to him.
You're wrong. Coaching himself proves why he needs grownup supervision. There is nothing gained by diving at the tape.
Intelligent people can do stupid things. And we could all need grownup supervision sometimes. -You are reducing this thing to something simplistic it simply isn’t…(IMO).
It supposed to be about running 1500 meters (or whatever distance), NOT about running 1497 meters and falling down the remaining three.
When someone falls across the finish line the cross it without control - and considering how all the jumpers and throwers can be disqualified for being just 1 mm out of bounds that makes the rule that allows falling across the line ridiculus.
Our sport has big enough marketing problems anyway - please adjust the rule so that runners have to cross the line with control, both feet on the ground, no other body part to touch the ground for lets say three seconds or ten meters of walking or some other measure of display of remained control.
Gymnastics and ski jumping and others sports have rules about controlled landings being mandatory no matter how good the jumps are otherwise - works great.
Besides (speaking of marketing) THIS WOULD ADD an element of suspense for both the public and the runners fighting behind - as long as there's a chance that one of the guys up front can be disqualified for failing to cross the finish line in a controlled manner it's a possible that (let's say as an example) that the fight ten meters back for forth place is actually a fight for third and bronze.
I think your time should be when the LAST part of you crosses the line. you’ve got to get all of yourself past the finish. If you fall on the line and your legs haven’t crossed, you aren’t finished!

Shows Jakob is a competitor and winner. What he did reflects exactly the attitude needed for an Olympic champion. This whole "tactical", "saving it for later" BS needs to go (talking in an actual competition). People who think that way are losers.

Nothing gained except for a victory in front of his home crowd. Isn't that the point of running a race, winning?
Yes it was a little risky but, it showed passion and now he knows if the Olympics comes down to a dive he's already practiced it and is ready to do it again.
I thought it was great.

Your obsession with me has been for over 20 years. Give it up.
That would be gratuitous personal attack #8425 by you. Pathetic.
