Maybe it's due to having so many back to back global championships? Olympics in 2021, World Champs in 2022, World Champs in 2023, Olympics in 2024. The next off year isn't until 2026.
They are always careful with their words on coffee club when talking about Joe. They’ve implied in 50 different ways that he goes way too hard in training.
Seems like a good way to get reinjured. He said he’s back running pain free, which might mean 20-30 min of easy jogging, not ready to bust out 10x1k in 2:45 wearing spikes.
The group has done so well but really now is benefitting with Olympics being postponed to 2021. They likely would have had 0 Olympians in 2020.
Instead Monson and Klecker both have already made the Olympics and can take summer off. Otherwise they would be still trying to give it a shot for the Trials.
Now of course the question is is Ritz pushing them too hard like he did in his own career. Injuries plagued him.
Feel the same way. He ran 27:0x in March so it’s not like he is starting from nothing. If healthy now, go for it! The trials are always unpredictable so who knows what could happen.
Teare and Nur will certainly be in the mix in the 5000. Both have run under 13:05.00 this year, so they have qualifiers in that event. In the 10K, you are correct. Chelimo's chances in either event, unfortunately, are miniscule.

He's way too big of a dude for the marathon. The fact that he is even as good at the 10K as he is give his size is remarkable. Him and Ollie Hoare are nearly identical builds, and Hoare is a 1,500 guy! Last time I checked, there isn't anybody even threatening top 10s in major marathons at 160 lbs, let alone contending in them.
I hope he makes a run at the marathon. He's not going to be the best US marathoner the next few years with Nico being younger and faster, and some other guys. He could possibly be the best marathoner, and that may be his best event anyway.

Woody, like Klecker, also has not raced since the TEN. Do we have good evidence Woody is healthy? Hope we don't have another situation like the marathon where we can't even send three guys with the standard.

also only had one global championship in the 3 years prior and close to an entire year of little to no racing in 2020-it all evens out in the end...
