State championship, jr year, sub 8:50, closes in sub 60 and you criticize the guy, only on let's run
he closed in 57.1. I like Noonan sit and sick strategy because it suits him very well. I don't think other runners should be trying to compete against noonan in something he is naturally better at.
I didn't watch the 1600 but from what people are saying on here is that it was tactical. I heard ben bouie could have run like 4:03 and dropped everyone but he played tactical which was mistake
It's crazy how fast highschoolers are running these days. A 9:00 minute 2 mile use to be impressive and only a few did it during the year. How we have a 100+ running 9:00 or better.
I remember when Mike Stember ran 4:04 and it was a huge deal. I ran against the Hausers and thought they were complete studs with their times. Time wise, they'd get mercy ruled these days and Brad Hauser went on to become an NCAA champion. I can't believe how much the shoes have changed the game.
Did you watch the Stember video? It’s probably the craziest negative split ever, and he could easily have broken 4 that day.

actually nevermind I looked it up and he ran 4:06 not 4:03. So he should of tried to drop the field which I think he could have

Are you kidding? Ben taking it out? 4:03? Interesting and ridiculous take. Dude hasn’t taken anything out ever

almost all of the guys in that field had all run 4:06 or faster
taking it out would have been a VERY bad idea
the time would have been super fast though. If someone took it out in like 2:01ish the winning time probably would be around 4:02

As much as I like Noonan, can he ever run a race where he doesn't just sit on someone else? He always waits till the last lap. I know it's a great strategy l, but I just feel like Parra got used.
Parra took it out in 2:05/4:19, what the hell was Noonan supposed to do? Parra let himself get used, likely because he knew he had no chance of matching Noonan in a sit and kick affair.
Like the other guy said, kid runs a PR en route to a state championship as a junior and it’s still criticized. What the heck do you want, cartwheels across the finish line?
Do us all a favor and list all the races, XC or Track, Noonan has lost the last two years. It’s a pretty short list.

NXN - 45th place
Arcadia - 22nd place
He'll acquit nicely for those in June with a mile at the Brooks PR meet 2-mile at the Nike Outdoor Nationals. Not saying he's going to lead either of those races, but faster times are in store, for sure.

Who’s going to be at Nike Outdoor to push him? He will have to practically solo it from start to finish to run a sub 8:40
