Even though I live in America I’m rooting for Jakob first. Also this Kerr guy he gives a liberal, pretentious, douchy, entitled vibe.
You chose a weird handle for a supposed American.
He has made some really weird posts about Russia over the years (also his tag is. Also the fact that he doesn't like Kerr because he thinks he is a liberal is so funny.
So.... even if you give only a super conservative 2 seconds in the mile for super shoe conversion, it means Cram ran a superior race with an equal or faster last lap [ if you give him a half second over 400 m for the inferior shoe] than Kerr and Jakob and he did it nearly 40 years ago!
You think 2 seconds in the mile at the highest level is a "super conservative conversion?" What, so would 8 seconds be more reasonable then?

His running seems to be going OK, but he needs a makeover. I would like him to swap out the Oakleys for a novelty pair of sunglasses, like hearts or something.

Okay okay fair point. " super conservative " is the wrong way to put it. Realistic conversion might be better.
To folks on both sides of this debate yes it does get a little tiring always hearing about the shoes however on the other hand never taking it into consideration when looking at historical times is also simply unrealistic. And understanding the differences of shoes and tracks is important for a broader perspective of all things distance running. At the very least Cram is running essentially the same performance as Kerr and Jakob and again he did it almost 40 years ago. In fact, same shoes/track I'd take that peak Cram in yesterday's race. It's just impressive and interesting to consider.
The egos are brilliant though, nice to see a bit of healthy rivalry and a few roasts to heat things up. Makes it more interesting. The women should give it a go.
A completely different race. No pacer, rounds, heat. Watching the race, Jakob cannot out kick him. What factors set up for him to try to kill off Kerr with more than 400m to go?

Of course, Jakob can outkick Josh. He's done so in the past (say, in Diamond League races last summer, where Jakob pulled way ahead of Josh only in the last 100 meters of a 1500).
Yes, Josh outkicked Jakob in the world's final, but not by much.
In the Bowerman Mile, Jakob stuck with Josh every step for the last 500 meters or so, so it's hard to argue that Josh unleashed a withering kick that Jakob couldn't respond to.
This narrative that Jakob can't kick is getting old. He's kicked his way to two straight World 5,000 meter titles. He kicked his way to an Olympic 1500 gold.
I'll admit that Josh looks like he's unleashing a withering kick when he accelerates at the end (at least when he does that and wins...), but to say Jakob "cannot out kick him" is just plain erroneous.
Looking at the overhead angle of the start, there appears to be no timing device at the mile start line, but there is at the finish line, which means the "400" split is really 409 meters, the "800" split is 809 meters, et cetera. So that means the last 400 split (not 409), taken from the finish line is 54.6.

Josh Kerr holds off Norway’s Jakob Ingebrigtsen in an impressive showing to win the Bowerman Mile, breaking a British record in the process at the Prefontain...
Per splits shows kerr at 1200 at 2.50.7. That means he ran his last 409 in 54.6, so ~ 53.3 for his last lap. Closing at this space in a fast race makes it very hard for anyone to beat him. Would also argue this shows with a quicker 1200 - he could go faster. What a run!

I think Cram ran a slightly faster last lap even without a shoe conversion.
Ngeny still has the outdoor WR for 1000 m and thus was faster than El G, Jakob, and Kerr. Maybe similar raw speed to Wightman. I would not be surprised if he would be the WR in the mile or 1500 m but apparently his career was cut short by an auto accident which fortunately spared his life unlike Kiptum. He won gold in Sydney beating El G and Lagat who has a 3:26 PR so no his 3:43 was not a fluke performance. It is sad when very talented athletes like him and Kiptum never have the opportunity to reach their ultimate potential.

I think running rounds will help Jakob but no pacers will hurt him.
Hopefully someone else will take it out fast hoping for an unlikely medal.
But with the depth of the 1500 this year the semi's are going to be crazy races.
