I have it on good authority that prior to the start of the 10k last night, meet officials gathered the field and informed them that if the race reached the 6k mark and inclement weather arrived, they would ring the bell signaling that the race would end in 1 lap. Top 12 finishers at the end of that lap advance to Eugene.
1. Can anyone at the meet or better, in the race, confirm that this announcement was made?
2. If true, has there ever been a more idiotic plan suggested by meet officials? If the weather indeed makes the completion of the race unsafe and impossible, wouldn't you then have to rely on some empirical data to determine who advances. Perhaps top 12 seed times, or re-run the race either on Saturday or Sunday, before or after the scheduled events have begun or concluded?
