In experimenting with my own training, I have found doubles to be really beneficial, especially when recovering from workouts! I ran mostly singles for the past 3 years and it really only left me tired and injured. Doubles have helped me build fitness and mileage coming off an injury pretty safely and gave me more time to recover as the easy runs were broken up into more manageable pieces. For me, slogging along for 6-7 miles when my body feels unrecovered just is not ideal. So... Experiment! See how you feel with the change. As long as you keep your quality days QUALITY I don't see the harm in doing doubles on easy days.
