Hurta's best is only 4:01.79 from two years ago. Several Americans would get into that field before her. Johnson, Wiley, and Mackay off the top of my head.
Where on earth is Sinclaire Johnson? Hasn’t been spotted in forever.
She also ran a 4:13.x at some meet recently - maybe two ish weeks ago? Can’t remember which one.
Ah, that’s bad. Doesn’t look like any hope of competing this year for Paris. The US 1500m is way too competitive. What a shame. I always thought she benefited from the harder/longer BTC training in the winter. She hated the long work though, and insisted it wasn’t for her, despite seeing - more or less - great results from it. Maybe just doesn’t have the mindset/grit required- what a shame. A huge talent. Probably one of the most naturally talented out there.

Quite a few so so 1500 women who can no longer be competitive in today’s 1500 world with the younger talent being so amazing. So They move up to the 5K. The only shot they’ve got esp if they’re over 27. But not an easy distance and you need to be strategic to podium - another talent that comes with lots of experience.

This is kinda a slanted version of the history. She ran poorly with Bowerman. She ran well with UAC/Julian in 2022, lowering her 1500m PB by almost 5 seconds and winning USAs. There are some who attribute a lot of that improvement to her BTC training, though she raced poorly in her entire BTC stint. In 2023, she suffered an injury after a good indoor season. She rallied to make the US team (after Mu withdrew), and nearly matched her PB from 2022. She didn't have as good performances in a relative sense, for sure. She has also been on the record saying she knows she needs strength-work.
So many great potential bets... Some even money wagers to start:
Centro top 10?
Hobbs top 5?
Yared top 3?
Jakob beats Kerr?
My wagers:
1. Definitely not but I hope I’m wrong
2. No but I hope I’m wrong
3. No but I hope I’m wrong
4. Yes but I hope I’m wrong (I’m president of the He-Man Jakob-Haters Club)
Early wild guess is Kerr pulls up on Jakob’s shoulder in the stretch but Jakob fights him off by 1 meter in 3:46.x, and Hocker kicks through for 3rd place in 3:47-low. Nuguse hasn’t looked 100% sharp to me this season but hopefully I’m making something out of nothing.

Not sure. She ran the PB straight after leaving BTC. UAC/Julian can’t take the credit imo.
She’s never been the same since that run of great performances coming off the BTC work.
Just my opinion - the grit needed doesn’t seem to be there. Saying one knows they ‘need the strength work’, and actually going out and doing it are two very different things. Perhaps I’m wrong - I don’t know her. Just reading off the little I’ve seen and heard. It’s not even a criticism. Just an acknowledgement that hard work isn’t enough. You have to be a raving obsessed lunatic to make it to the top and insanely tough. Even with all her talent. I still see her as probably the most naturally talented of the current crop. Which is why I’d like to see her succeed.
Lamecha Girma is an interesting add in. Could he be a dark horse in this race?
Hasn't shown anything too promising this year but we know he can run fast at this distance after his 3:29 beating Kerr in Lausanne last year. Should be able to mix it up with the leaders if he's in form.
He’s already cracked 13 on a cr@p track in cr@p conditions.
The men’s roster is insane, there’s a total of 8 global champions in the field
- Jakob Ingebrigtsen (2021 Olympic 1500m champion, double 5000m world champion)
- Josh Kerr (2023 world 1500m champion, 2024 world indoor 3000m champion)
- Jake Wightman (2022 world 1500m champion)
- Ollie Hoare (2022 Commonwealth Games 1500m champion)
- Timothy Cheruiyot (2019 world 1500m champion)
- Geordie Beamish (2024 world indoor 1500m champion)
- Matthew Centrowitz (2016 Olympic 1500m champion and world indoor 1500m champion)
- Hobbs Kessler (2023 world road mile champion)
Especially with 3:43 miler Yared Nuguse and the 17 year old prodigy Cameron Myers, this is IMO the deepest mile field ever assembled and Jakob is in real danger of losing his first diamond league race since 2021. I can’t predict how fast it will be considering it’s only May and the weather could have an impact too.

I just think your timelines are off and I can confirm that with this. She left Bowerman hurt in August 2021.

I think she can get to 3:59-4:00 shape (last year she progressed fast) but that might not be enough with MacKay/Hiltz looking like they can hit 3:57-8 in the right races. ESP is a lock if healthy.

Erm he ran sub-13 in very humid conditions with a sub-56 last lap? That’s pretty promising to me. I don’t think he would win but being top 5 seems on the table.
Sorry, you're right, I stand corrected. My comment was accurate during the indoor season but I totally let that recent 5k race slip from my mind for some reason. I do wonder if he's at the point in his training yet where he can run a really fast mile though
