Super Scary. Reminder to get your cholesterol checked and an EKG every now and then. Doesn't matter how fit you are.
Unless there’s some type of familial disorder, the diet of a 34yo elite marathoner isn’t going to be an issue. This is either a cardiac structural issue (ex: ihss), an electrical conductivity problem, or an embolic problem.
Statins massively reduce all-cause mortality. They're really a miracle drug. Don't quit taking them without at least talking to your doctor.
And see youbdr every 90 days so she can refill your prescription drug and get paid
Your FP probably makes $20 for your copay visit- sometimes less. They make zero on anything they prescribe. No matter what you’ve convinced yourself, that’s what actual reality is.

Can you link to a study? My doctor when I lived in Ithaca 15 years ago was very skeptical. He told me that they have proof statins reduce your cholesterol but there was no proof that reduced your heart attack risk. They just assumed it was true. He was skeptical.
I'm not saying he's correct but I loved how he wasn't afraid to question things.
I’m on 20mg of the “ R” statin. If you are susceptible to side effects you’ll have problems. My bad cholesterol is getting out of control and I won’t cut out food I enjoy. I’ve trained over 100,000 miles since 1977 and my legs are so wrecked, I really can’t effectively race anymore so, I thought it was time.
I really feel side effects. My cardiologist says my problem is that I read what the side effects could be.
my grandpa died from a stroke at 60. I’m 69.
another aspect is drug combination. When I wrote my initial comment I was really feeling bad from the statins and cialis that I take post HIFU for prostate cancer.

That's not really evidence of anything thou....
Right. Vaccinations with similar results have been around for quite a long time.

Yet in the last two years. I have seen and heard from parents with kids that took this covid shot and there are lots of young people with blood clots in the heart and respiratory issues. All of them athletes and good ones for their age and sport.

I forgot to add, that did not have issues like this prior to taking the covid shot(s).
A near elite 34 year old Marathoner died, what has been reported as heart attack. To date, no autopsy has been done. How is this a statin discussion? Statins are for high cholesterol, correct? I am older than you but I have never suffered high cholesterol. Death due to torn heart artery(ies) may appear to non-cardiologist medical personnel as death due to heart attack. A lot of deleted posts on this thread. Maybe let'srun staff did not like the speculation. Isn't the assumption of heart attack due to high cholesterol speculation without evidence?

My old doctor was very skeptical as well and a "dissenter" in the medical community. He was a brilliant man.
For those on here posting about extremely high cholesterol issues, I have very high (familial) cholesterol as well, but my current doctor says oxidized LDL is really the number that matters the most. Moreover, he does a CIMT on my neck every year to see what my calcification looks like, and I just had a CAC done to see if it was equivalent to the CIMT, and it was, not a huge cause for concern, not zero but not high despite my high cholesterol.
By the way, K2 can mitigate or even reverse calcification in the arteries. Just do a read of the literature out there. But it doesn't work if you are on statins. Also, I take bergamot and was able to lower my top line cholesterol by 25%. I just added red yeast rice, which, if you can find a "pure" supplement is chemically almost identical to a statin. Durable is a good source as is Bergamet.
Finally, just eat a Mediterranean diet. I don't know that meat is the problem as people on here have alluded to so much as starches, sugars, and preserved food. Just get more fish, olive oil, nuts and seeds, legumes, and, yes, berries into the diet and less garbage. It's not an all or nothing proposition.
