I mean you're not wrong but I am not a pro paying my mortgage and receiving health insurance to finish 10 minutes behind the winner today in Boston like Jenny. She is getting paid and she has raced maybe 3-4 times in the last 2-3 years? I hope she has a backup plan because she is about to put out to pasture.
You’re right. She must be the first 1500m gold medalist who 13 years on is not able to Corte with the best marathoners in the world. She alone will have to figure what’s next as none have before.

Reading this post gave me bladder cancer, I may be entitled to compensation from trying to decipher meaning from it without a decoder ring.

I'm massively impressed that she finished today. She's the greatest U.S. miler in history and changing the training and mindset to the marathon distance has to be difficult, especially when she's simply not competitive.
I got my invite to debut in '43, back before they catered to the woke mob and paved the entire course for the milksops. walked to hopkington myself that morning, not like the afternoon farmers they shuttle out these days. lined up in a pair of polio shoes like everyone else and had to fist fight three Italians at the six mile mark when they refused to stop and salute old glory as we passed Framingham town hall. I met him the top collegian Hank Dempster at the start line and i knew i would beat him that day when he had a handshake like a wilted petunia. of course there was no participation medal back then, you just crossed the finish line, signed your draft papers and went home.

A lot of people have moved up from middle distances to the marathon. Obiri and Hassan started out as milers, although their transition to the marathon was more gradual. Lagat ran marathons at the end of his career.
Jenny is a professional athlete. She can adjust her mindset and training. But at this stage of her career she probably doesn't have the same motivation.
Interesting tidbit from Boston results: Obiri was in the race when Jenny won her WC Gold. She finished 10th after falling from contact with Uceny. Two years later Jenny took Silver and Obiri Bronze, so they were both on the podium.
