Instead of running 800m, 1600m, and 3200m or being part of a hs team, trying to win CIF brooziee destroyed them by having them do 5ks and some 10ks. This is on brozzie. He burnt them out. Nice. Job.

Most HS kids do more 5k’s in one season of XC then Lex did all year with cross county and track. This is on Santos, who obviously is failing more than Lex. His men a sucking it up hard core. It’s too bad Lex can’t stay with a coach that knows what to do.
You can blame a coach who had someone running fast. Let’s talk about the elephant in the room. Ricardo Santos trains all his athletes like the half Marathon training and he did this back with his Kenyan athletes at Iona too. Stanford is not a place anyone chooses to go in order to run fast with the current coaching situation. Ricardo Santos and the Stanford men lack development. Look at Cole Sprout. Cole has been wasting away. Brosnan did an amazing job developing Nico , Colin , Lex and Leo. The reason Lex and Leo are running so poor is the obvious. Lex and Leo picked a subpar coach who can not develop talent. What is gods name was the Stanford thinking to put Lex in the 10k a few weeks back. Now let’s talk about destroying Lex as an unprepared freshman. It’s like Ricardo Santos is just doing it on purpose to make him run slow or he’s a clueless coach. It’s one or the other.
Didn't one of them say "Living in the dorms has been a big adjustment" almost verbatim? I feel like they even said that was a reason they haven't been running as fast as their HS times but maybe I'm misremembering. To me, I got the vibe that they were both really enjoying it. That makes me think they'll be ok as long as they're staying healthy. Kessler's first year out of HS he didn't PB, but he's been doing great since. He talked about growing a lot as an athlete that year, because he had to figure a lot of stuff out and he made some mistakes.
it's their freshmen year, give them a break. it's a huge adjustment in training, competition and just their lifestyle in general. leave them alone and let them build.
and don't forget, Aaron Sahlman is redshirting, Colin Sahlman struggled his freshmen year and only showed improvement by outdoor season, and Nico came to NAU during Covid and had an entire year to train/adjust to college before he started racing.
True but Nico was 4th at cross country his freshman year and broke the junior 5k record
What’s different. I’m let me see
Still ahead of the Oregon runners.
Santos isn’t responsible for Young bombing, it’s his freshman year. Santos has coached national champions. Let the process work itself out for another year for the Young twins. Then make judgment
All of Stanford's guys underperformed in the 5k this weekend. Let's see how Leo does here in the 1500
Division doesn't also inherently = fast (or not)
Sherry and Rob Di were way back, Sprout with a 13:38... as a fan it is tough to see
The Young twins are just not as talented as Nico. They had outstanding coaching in high school, reached great heights, but are now realizing their talent limitations.
Yes it does. Just look at the times.
Given that this whole thread has been (rightfully) bashing the twins’ coaching, comparing freshman year to freshman year between the Twins and Nico isn’t exactly a perfect comparison for the grounds of talent imo. The Twins definitely ran faster in HS, but Nico might have run faster if he had a real senior year track season. That being said, Nico’s ceiling from his 13:52 might have been all the well higher because of relative lack of physical maturity and having several biomechanical issues to fix, compared to the Twins who looked a lot more polished already as seniors. I think there is a universe in which the Twins are as talented as Nico or even slightly better, but we won’t get to tell if Santos screws them up.
Pathetic to trash an 18 year going to one of the best schools in the country, and qualifying for regionals as a freshman. He and every other student athlete are working their butts off and you signed in to belittle one of them. Bravo.
Hi Lex! 13:57 does not qualify for west regionals (nor does it qualify from the east).
Leo with a 3:45, not too far behind Waskhom and Houser though
Portal now...
and Lex comes back with a 3:54 beating only 1 in his heat
So Lex’s talent is only to 13.57 even though he ran 13.35 a year ago?! Alrighty then
No scholarship limits anymore! (NCAA Track and Field inequality is going to get way worse, right?)
