What a slow moving train wreck for Jerry. XC was an abject disaster. Indoors they didn’t produce anything of note. Outdoors we have Simeon publicly calling Jerry for lack of racing, then he ends up with a stress fracture. Connor Burns MIA. Hope all the long repeats backward in lane 6 and the turf tempos have been worth it. Ducks really flying high at this point lol.
Happened to Cranny a couple years back. With having a dietitian, doctors, and sports medicine resources at BTC and OU, this shouldn’t be occurring under his watch. He must be ignoring his runners or they’re too intimidated to tell him to crank it down a notch (not like he will).
"The timing really is terrible with the olympics being this year, and before this season started I came in with the mindset of making the team or bust"
No words.
That one floored me to be honest. Set your goals high I guess? But to accomplish it, here is what he'd need on about 3 months of healthy training: -PBing by almost 5 seconds to secure standard -Finish Top 3 at USAs beating out Nuguse, Hocker, Kessler, Houser, Waskom, Green et al.
If he was thinking this in 2023, I kinda get it, but setting a PB (any PB) this year with all the injuries would probably have been a win.
Same here. Even if he never got injured, he had no chance to make the Olympic team this year.

He'd basically have to become Niels Laros or Cameron Myers to even have a chance at qualifying.
Kid is talented no doubt, but thinks he’s such hot shizz. Not a world beater yet, son. Stay humble or be humbled Cade Flatt-style.
Ben Blankenship had the exact same injury his senior year of HS that caused him to miss the state XC meet. He came back in the spring and defended his 1600m title (and the rest is history).
Tough break for Simeon, but he'll be fine going forward.

I read that twice and thought he must just mean trying to make the UO top 7 in XC or something for next fall lol, surely not the... [checks notes]... Olympics!?!
Femoral stress fractures (especially in males) should not be taken as just another running injury. He's likely overtraining or under fueling (RED-S)
Fuel ? - If I was his coach, I'd be wheeling him to the nearest food van and start tucking in to some burritos - I won't say WHY...but let's just say it wouldn't only be for the diarrhea.
In interviews during his senior year of high school he would talk about getting down to "racing weight." When women talk about that, it's a red flag. Stress fractures follow.

I don’t really agree with that mindset. He’s not disrespectful like Cade Flatt and I get why he would want to set his goals high.
Shaving off 4.5 seconds in a year at 17 isn’t unheard of, but he also would have had to make usatf final, which already would already have been very hard. Then he needs to finish top 3, to be honest for that he would have needed a miracle.
But I don’t necessarily think setting high goals is a bad thing.
At the end of the 2017 season, Jakob’s pr was 3:39 high. When asked about his goals for the next season, he told Gjert he wanted to win european championships in Berlin, Gjert laughed at him. The next year Jakob ran an 8 seconds pr and won the double in Berlin.
Of course Simeon isn’t Jakob but Jakob also wasn’t anyone before actually making it happen, so let the kid dream and prove what he can do.
Yup. He talked about getting to "racing weight" in interviews his senior year of HS. Red flag upon red flag. This ain't just a "female" problem, folks.
So has anyone from that super-hyped class of 2023 been running well? The kid from Georgetown is the only one I can think of really. Rocky Hansen too in the couple races he's run but he's also been injured a lot

Were Jerry and Simeon on the same page regarding the Olympic goal????
If they were this looks bad for Jerry!
If they were not in agreement this injury is no surprise. Simenon should have known what he was committing to. Jerry should have have recognized this wasn’t a good fit.
