It has nothing to do with the "sauce." I don't believe that he was ever on it.
He seems typical of a lot of guys that were HS standouts only to become mediocre later. The big tipoff was his physical development. When he was in HS he already was a lot more physically mature that his peers and looked like someone in his mid-20s. Those that mature later seem to do a lot better in the long run.
Being a "physically mature" teenager doesn't mean you get 4 seconds slower in 1 season. It's not that he hasn't improved, it's that he got drastically worse in a very short amount time, which has been accompanied by injuries. He was tall but not overly muscular in high school, idk why people keep saying he was so "mature" for his age. Does the picture of him below make him look older than he was?
Cade Flatt, the highly-touted freshman at Ole Miss, will hope for a better outing in the men's 800m at the 2023 Joe Walker Invitational on Friday, 7 April.

I don’t think that analysis is in point. It’s a selection bias and you are just seeing a select few of late developers and thinking somehow that is why they are better.
The reality is you don’t really know who will be the best at 21+ until they are there.
There’s the top 1% of early developers and the top 1% of late developers. Eventually they merge.
As mentally unstable as his racing is you don’t tell him to pace after he just DNF a 800 last wk.
i mean he literally can’t finish a 800. His pride won’t allow him to bc he’s getting dusted.
and it’s not Adam smith fault. Smith is a great coach. He’s turned chase rose of ole miss from a meh steeple chaser to a 1:48 guy. Several 13:50ish 5k guys. Couple 3:40 1500 guys.
marcus Dropick of ole miss has run 1:49/1:50 for 800 for years, he finally broke the barrier w a 1:47 last wk. so yeah, don’t blame Adam smith.
Smith can be a good coach but still be the wrong coach for Flatt. Vanhoy wouldn't have been any better, and quite frankly is kind of dumb for giving Flatt scholarship money when they probably weren't going to make him any better. The fact that Ole Miss's 4x4 teams are running times that would might be in contention for a state medal in a large school division shows that Smith probably is not coaching Flatt correctly.

Of course Dropick was rabbitting he’s never run a 1500 in his entire career.
ans again, why as mentally fragile as flatt is why would u have him rabbitting? It’s hard enough for him to finish a race. He wasn’t. I was at the meet. Around 550m when he gave out it was obvious he wasn’t trying to get to 600 but just quit when he was passed.
The training which may be ideal for 75% of 800m athletes may ruin the others.
Positive split racing may be ideal for 90% of 400m & 800m athletes but may be a disaster for the remaining athletes even if it was a success strategy in prior years. Cade Flatt needs to split 1st three 200m in 27.xx or 28.xx seconds no matter if he is in last place first lap or in lane 3.
Well guess what, Flatt is more of a sprinter than a mid-distance runner. His hs 400 PR is faster than Ole Miss's school record.
thats great, his 400 right now is 49
Okay and? All this says is that my point is correct that Ole Miss sucks at coaching 4/8 guys.
To BFC: my bad, I was looking at athletic.net's all-time list. Flatt's PR would rank him 13th, and nobody at Ole Miss has run that fast since 2006. It's safe to say Ole Miss is not a 4/8 school.
Will Sumner, who had almost identical PR's, went to a sprint school and trained under a coach with actual experience and results training 400/800 runners. The difference between Sumner and Flatt post-high school is day and night.
