Johnson is up there with bobblehead, centro, doorbell mo, rupp. Most blatant doping cheaters in history. Also, how would a 10 second race dehydrate someone? Before the race, Johnson chugged a liter of water, right on the start line.
Maybe, probably will never know. As I understand it, Jamaica did not have out of competition testing until after the 2012 Olympics. Maybe someone else knows for sure?
Lol. Not even close. Watch the documentary. It was pretty compelling that he was framed. Charlie Francis flat out admitted he tested positive for a drug he wasn't taking.
It’s actually very compelling that he wasn’t framed, there was an investigation done. Charlie Francis’s word is not good enough, he was BJ coach, there’s an issue of bias. The committee concluded that Johnson meant to take Furazabol , a steroid with a short half life , but accidentally or carelessly used stanazolol when prepping the syringe for injection.
Ben Johnson would be helpful if he followed T&F. He could tell us the undetectable drugs athletes are taking and/or tell us the corruption in T&F and tell us how and why are some athletes allowed to take p.e.d.s.
9.79 is a great documentary. Pay close attention to the drug testing persons comments. Still applicable today. Pretty sure some are protected even if caught years beyond the performance. Some will be banned only to make the public perception that its not out of control.
From 88, Smith and DaSilva can still sleep well at night. The rest dont care.
Nonetheless, that documentary played so many sides of my personal emotion about.that era. I lived it and had a gold medalist teammate that was probably part of that scene. I dont want to believe it but its probably true and wouldnt surprise me if he told me so.

Whether he is a fan of the sport, or not, how could possibly know any those things regarding current athletes?

The documentary implies the doctor who was supplying them lied about what he was giving them. The documentary also states the testing improved just before the Seoul games and was kept a secret to catch those who didn't realize the effective testing time window narrowed.
Johnson did a recent interview on Radio Jamaica sports where he admitted that while he doesn't watch much track and field, he doesn't think much has changed in terms of doping. He also seemed to blame his drug bust on the fact that he was beating Americans.
After reading his quote it seems he's referring to nothing has changed when you're out performing Americans. He's not interested in track and field and still bitter about his own controversial experiences. I didn't get the impression his statements were about cleaning up the sport. He's more interested in America's not winning than a clean sport. He's bitter and blames the Americans for his own demise with PEDS.
Bolt doped as well. He blew the doors off known dopers. Not sure why he never got busted. Had the system pegged like Lance I guess
He almost assuredly was among the Jamaican male sprinters that were caught in the 2018 retest of the 2008 Beijing samples with the more sensitive clenbuterol test. Why else would the IOC have made the unprecedented decision to let off the dozens of athletes they caught? And stopped retesting the samples from other major events.
He and Shelly would have gone down and it would have been the biggest scandal in track history. Dwarfing Ben or Russia.
"Nothing much has changed over the years. I mean, I think it's got(ten) worse than back in my day because now people are seeing opportunity that they can do very well in this -they can make a living. (But) if you're not an American, and if you beat Americans, you did something wrong and the Americans always blame other people, but also they do the same thing even worse, so they don't want to accept the fact that we have people outside of the country that is better than them and you've got to respect that...
In my days, you know, I'm a Jamaican immigrant to Canada and (I) become the best and (I) beat (the) Americans and (they) didn't like it.
He is the thing we were talking about since 2021.
And there are no better than the Brits followed by American in this subject.
Why does this come as a surprise? Of course a guy caught for doping is going to say that everyone's doping and it's worse than when he was there, do you think he'd say "yeah these guys are super fast, way better than me, and they're all clean!"? It's no different than some washed up football player calling everyone soft and saying he could beat everyone currently in the game if he was in his prime. The idea that doping is *worse* now than when Johnson was competing without Out of Competition Testing is just nuts. Even if you think everyone's still doping, they have to do less of it to avoid getting caught compared to full blast during the offseason like they did in Johnson's era.
