If rested, she could probably go 14:50 behind pace lights.
I would think so, considering she just ran a 14:52 Indoors, after racing a hard mile the night before, and maybe saving something for a 3000m the following day.

This is gross inaccuracy.
Humans occasionally make errors when quickly recalling data from their foggy memories. (I’ve seen some AI-generated videos with multiple errors in their attempts at presenting historical ‘facts’. )
She closed the 14:52 in 4:36. She is in way better than 14:52 shape.
This raises an interesting side-topic. Do pace-lights ever purposely get set, beforehand, to adjust pace during the race. For example, in a 5k, it might be optimal (at least for some athletes) to negative-split the distance.

I can foresee the possibility where pace lights are set to average the goal pace over the entire distance, but optimally, athletes need some initial distance running a bit slower in order to get their bodies acclimated.
Here is an early case using pace lights, where Sifan Hasan missed her goal of trying to break 14:22, but only ran a 14:38.

Yes. The women’s pace lights tonight will be set for something like 72s through 3k then 71s through 8k. Then slightly faster again. See Gault’s preview article.

That is only 15min for the first 5k, considerably easier than 14:50, raising the chances of Werner going a full 5k before stepping off the track.
In no world is Valby built for the marathon. Maybe try a couple years doing something other then mostly crosstraining first
Not sure why my post is being downvoted. Longest Valby has raced recently that I'm aware of is a 6k back in cross and she was still cross training and battling injury then. Asking her to make a 38k jump and not break down during the race is a REALLY big ask regardless how much talent she has. I'm sure she could potentially get there eventually, but not anytime soon
It would be awesome if Valby were making her 10000m debut. I would give her a chance of 30:35 easily
Joanie 🏅 (a true champion) has always been one of my favorite athletes of all time right up there with K. Bekele 💥
But who knows if she is ready to step up in distance? But for a hypothetical finishing time, watch Australian Lauren Ryan tonight, running comparable Indoor times this season.

Why do you think Valby was battling injury this fall? She cross-trains now whether “battling injury”, or not.

We don’t know yet, but Valby, like Kierra D’Amato, may have road times out-performing her track times due to favorable response from super-shoes.
I was there for the entirety of the men's marathon. I remember everyone near the starting line was touting de Castella, especially two guys standing next to me who were seemingly in awe of him. I took one look and thought no chance. There's no similarity to all the athletes I've watched the past 2 weeks.
There was, however, a lot of similarity to the defending (and only) world champion and world record holder in the event, as well as the victor at Rotterdam in a sprint finish over Lopes (and Salazar) in 1983, and the Commonwealth champion over Ikangaa and Shahanga in 1982. And though I knew Lopes through his various incarnations and reincarnations over the years, and knew Treacy from his college years (when he wasn't always the fastest on his own school team), I'm pretty sure they weren't the center of my attention at the time, especially since one had never won a marathon he was in, and the other had never even run a marathon.

It would have been 9:00 at 3k. 14:55 at 5k. 23:47.5 at 8k. Then if they stayed on 71s they would have finished at 29:42.5 but the plan was to speed up the lights once more over the last 2k. (Check my math.)
Has everyone forgot? P Valby is a fragile former swimmer. Even if her twitch ratio, running form and other measurables tell us P Valby should be a good 10000m runner. Don't forget, she can't run often. The torque on her left foot to left hip on the track for 25 laps isn't worth the injury risk. I know P Valby doesn't have classic sub-4:05 1500m speed for 5000m, but 5000m needs to be her longest track event.
If only there was a coach that could take delicate athletes (like Ritz) and maximize their potential.

A 38k jump is a big ask, even for a talent like Valby.
