Its always funny to see a turkey trot or christmas race have like 1-2 guys jog in a 15 min 5k or 33 min 10k and then the next finisher is like 10 minutes back.

No kidding. I once ran a local track 800m and Sarah Vaughn jumped in (this was between when she qualified for the 1500m world champs and the championships itself). I was the guy that finished 10 minutes back (well, 35 seconds, but same diff), and Sarah was only the 3rd fastest in the race.

A sub 20 wins your town 5k? Ill give you the harsh truth. Sounds like you're in a town of losers. Are you just there to take advantage of low cost of living? If not, you need to run all out then pack your bags and move to a better place. Good luck.

The sooner you figure out that nobody cares about you winning but you, the sooner people will begin to like you.
Congratulations on your quick rise to being an elite runner. But I have to say that I’m just a little suspicious of someone dropping a sub 20 5K off of one year of training. Now, be honest: was that 19:51 completely natural, or were you doped to the gills?

I could dust everyone if I liked... but I don't want to seem like a show off. I'll probably just jog behind the "leader" for 3 miles then absolutely obliterate him in the final .1
I might even wear a costume too lol. But yeah, I don't want to show off too much lol, just enough to let everyone know that I am an elite level runner.
10-12 years ago these boards used to be filled with good content shared between coaches and runners. Now its turned into a dating site, troll city and absolute rubbish since everyone is considered a hobby jogger. Gen Z's make me sick.
Don't be shy if you lose. Come back and tell us about it. Lol

Dude, I can drop a sub-20 5k, and I'm a 59+ hobby jogger. Try harder
If your average town 5k is like and average small town 5k parkrun in the UK, you'll need 16-18 min to take the W.

I love the word ELITE. Just 7 min. faster and he might make the Olympic finals.
I'm a 38 year old woman. I typically run 19:40-19:50 in 5Ks and get completely dusted by women. The winning time for men is usually 14/15.

Ok Spencer we don't need another one of your costume 5k videos.
Could you beat him?
Seriously? You are a troll, yes?
OK, if this is legit, go hog wild and KILL the field with a 19:51. But really, be showy and destroy the field!
But y'know, any half decent high school kid who is around could jump in and run 16:08 or so. And they'd just be strolling, getting a workout.

Actually they dissapointed me. It's clearly a trollpost. And you guys reply to it like it's real. Sometimes users here baffle me as they treat genuine posts as trolling and trolling it was for real. Come on, guys :D
Go for your 1 mile PR in the first mile. Then survive the next 2.1 miles because you spent everything in the first mile.
(I actually did this in a small event last summer. Had no regrets.)
19:xx isn’t good. Who cares if you win? You would be destroyed by middle school girls. Just make sure everyone at the event understands that
I don't see anywhere if you are a man or a woman? Sub 20 if a man won't win any races, even very small towns. Sub 20, if you are a woman, might win in a very small town. You obviously don't know much about running if you think a barely sub 20 5K is anything but very mediocre.
I did a 5K last summer where the winning time was 20:19. There were 75 finishers.
It was perhaps a special case because it was a first time event, held about two miles away from a much more popular and established 5K two miles away that had 1143 finishers. All of the serious runners did the big race. (20:19 would have placed 35th overall in the big event.)
So if you're willing to cherry pick your race, you might find a 5K where 19:xx is a winner.
