Still better than Wake Forrest. They actually race their super freshman where they somehow get drastically slower!!!

Wake Forest has noting to do with U of Oregon men not performing well at all
Relax.
not concerned at all. Give them a minute. The women are doing well. They have a lot of smart people on staff, I don’t they just sit there and let it all go to doo doo.
takes a minute to build even in the transfer portal era. Probably going to be big 10 champs next year right? Triple crown that bad boy?

They have a huge transfer who will finish top 5 in XC. They have a kid who was the top freshman at XC 2 years ago. And they have the most talent of any team. I wojld not be shocked by a 3rd place finish next season.
Lol saying the quiet part out loud — a TRANSFER with 3 months under Jerry will be the top performer and difference maker. Do you understand what you’re saying?
This is on Phil Knight. The AD was ready to offer the job to someone who would have been outstanding for both cc and track but at the last minute Mr. Nike himself steps in and tells the AD to hire Jerry. And when Mr. Nike says that to the AD it simply gets done. Anyone with any knowledge of the sport knew this would happen. So put the blame where it belongs.
Robert Johnson may be a world class arrogant, unfriendly guy but he got many national championships, whether through his sprinters or his distance coaches. Jerry's got a good women's coach in Shalane and probably Solinsky contributing and the women are doing adequately. It is obvious that all their hopes are resting on stocking the men's cupboard full of major distance talent, running them base miles and stacking up the physical maturity so as to release them all at once next year or the year after or five years down the road from that, but it's coming, he would tell you if he ever talked to the media. He's not going to get burned by the Matt Withrow redshirt ever again. He will have all his guys compete only when they are all simultaneously ready. So, they are all training for the future, all except for the large # of injured guys.
Jerry, has killed THE TRACK & FIELD PROGRAM. All the money is now going to distance. Oregon won by having a well rounded team under Johnson. Sprints, hurdles, throws, jumps, ect...And yes distance. Those days are gone. Team sucks.
BFD who cares aout indoors. There's no indoor Olympics.

RJ wouldn't drink the kool-aide. RJ is true to the sport. RJ never lied. RJ coached. RJ was never a propagandist for Nike, Flotrack, Runnerspace, Citius Magazine, Track Town USA, Register-Guard, Track Landia, Oregonian, KVAL, etc.
Didn't Coach Rjohnson tell a female or two to cut back on the sweet rolls, cake, pies, etc?
I hope so. Sometimes an athlete needs to hear the truth.
Has anyone heard or know what Robert Johnson is up to nowadays? Left the school and disappeared without a trace.
Someone send Jerry this book

Four years of eligibility, one red-shirt season. I understand being patient with freshman, but at some point you got live in the here and now. For most college runners it's not going to get any better than their university experience. I hate to see it get pissed away "training for the future."

Embarrassing to have four men on your team who broke 4:00 in high school and not a single one of them did it this season. Cook is a fine runner but he should be a depth guy that maybe runs the DMR for them, not a runaway star. They're closer to Cornell and Northeastern than they are to NAU or UW. Embarrassing.
Cmon man, Cook is good. 1:46 guy who qualified for cross nationals as an individual then ran 3:55 in December. Sucks he’s (presumably) injured
Go Hogs! Soo Pig!
Point is, Oregon was one of those programs that could get it done in all seasons. Its hard to look at a bare cupboard now waiting for a one trick pony distance program. Good luck beating Florida with that plan. NAU MIGHT get a trophy indoors with distance guys but thats it.
The sport needs more balanced programs, not fewer that specialize. Scholarships for track are few so proven programs that can come through across the board are going to continue to get top athletes and find a way to compete for heavy hardware.
When the Ducks won indoor a couple years ago, they had a sprinter and thrower among other point getters to go along with distance depth. Harder to get it done outdoors but their women managed quite well in what most would consider a non-sprint environment. They still had distance and throwers scoring though. When NAUs distance can counter/cancel Oregons, Arkansas distance, there better be some sprinters, hurdlers, jumpers, throwers to back them up.
Like Johnson and others who came before, like them or not, balance wins track meets.
If it was easy, everyone would be doing it. There needs to be more balanced programs in the sport. Even Georgia was starting to be consistent. Now watch Illinois.
It’s time to separate Shalane and Jerry. Officially name Shalane women’s head cross country coach and distance coach. She’s ready to kead her own team.

Huston, we have a problem.
The real question is how do they fix it? This is a serious question. Things are looking bad
This is what they get for getting rid of Johnson.
Jerry turning into a different version of smith. Phil is being patient, Jerry better some results soon or he will get a nike/oregon pink slip
No scholarship limits anymore! (NCAA Track and Field inequality is going to get way worse, right?)
