I agree. Adds a bit of fire in their belly. Wightman knows he needs to get his closing speed back and he’s not quite where he was pre-injury. Now’s the time to work on that so he can peak at the right time.
It's probably because he's a competitor and he's frustrated after a year of injury so he's maybe pushing a bit more than he should. His plan was always NBIGP and then Maurie Plant. The race last night was a late decision and maybe not a great decision but he was in Australia anyway and 3:34 is fine if not spectacular. I do wonder now if he's regretting skipping Glasgow
He’s surely made a lot of money this way and gotten to experience something new. Probably better than scraping into the final in Glasgow and likely missing out of the medals (based on the form we’ve seen)

This isn't meant to be sarcasm or a put down. It just seems that there's a different way of thinking lately.
I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing if a runner loses a race.
It happens- it's early in the season, it's an off day, whatever...
Now, it seems that people read too much into a loss.

His finishing speed is fine, he just needs to gain fitness.
So does this mean indoors is now as fast as outdoors?
Wightman ran 3:34.06 indoors in Boston on Feb 4. Then he ran 3:52.11 in Australia (equivalent to 3:34.88) on February 15 and now 3:34.31.
The difference has been marginal for a while. You trade pristine, windless conditions for more turns. Probably preferable to time trial indoors unless you have good conditions with drafting/pacing covered or are in a stadium setting (blocking the wind) like many of the Diamond League setups. Grant Fisher just ran 12:51 with only 2k of pacing, which would be trickier outdoors unless he lucked into a windless day. But he has run 12:46high in a very competitive Diamond League with better competition, little wind and good pacing.
EDIT: Will be interesting to see if Jake skips Euros. Doesn’t feel like he has the luxury of cutting short building his base to do so given how strong the Trials will be. Will not surprise me if it’s a similar squad to the World Indoors one, though maybe Mills contests it.

One must say though that Kessler is a notch less talented than "the rest of Jakobs".
Here's the order of talent from my point of view:
1) Jakob at 17yo - 3:31.18
2) Laros at 18yo - 3:31.25
3) Myers at 17yo - 3:33.26
4) Kessler at 18yo - 3:34.36
*Reynold Kipkorir Cheruiyot at 18yo - 3:30.30
Myers is still 17 untill June, so he has a chance to even best Jakob.
Myers appears to post all his running onto Strava, and is still only doing around 60 MPW. Laros was the same. If Myers gets a Monaco invite, he could well run 3;30. Then again, Monaco will be around his birthday, so not sure if it's before or after.
Monaco is July 12 so a month after he turns 18. Eugene/Oslo (he is Nike) have a mile and 1500, so he might have a crack or two right before his birthday.

Yeah, decent money and travel. I think he could have been dangerous in Glasgow. Without most of the natural front runners, I think we could see a slow-ish final, maybe a 3:35 winning time. That could put Wightman in the mix

Not exactly last minute, it had been months in the planning.
Wightman is absolute class, on and off the track. Must've been 1 hour of autographs and photos before he started his cool down.
Myers is special, and also interacted brilliantly with the fans.
Maurie Plant was in the diary months ago, but the Sydney 1500 was only added to his schedule last week:
"I spoke to his [Wightman's] manager in Melbourne and said, 'Hey, listen, if it's a bit breezy, if he doesn't get his qualifier here [at Maurie Plant], look, we've got a race next Thursday in Sydney we're putting on', and within 36 hours it was confirmed," Templeton said.

I just can’t really see it even in a “slow” race. He’s not producing a huge kick in a 3:33-4 race. I get that he had a nice last lap vs Hobbs but falling off the lead wasn't a good thing so running a 26 is less impressive if you don’t run the penultimate one hard. I don’t see him being able to hang with more than 1-2 of Hocker, Nader, Tefera, Mehary, Habz, Keter and Reynold right at this juncture.
I'm guessing that Jake will have to peak for the Olympic trials as more than likely Kerr won't run and will get the wild card.
Watch out for Jye Edwards as he looks more confident with each race .
Australian Champs, British trials and US trials are going to be sick . They'll be some potential Olympic finalists or even medalists watching the olympics from their living room (a situation usually restricted to Kenya in Mid distance) .
Superb run by Myers. Also his time was just shy of his PB set in Poland last July of 3:33.26. To be running that fast this early in the season and at his age is just insane!
You are spot on. Just off his 3:33.26 PR. Meyers is ridiculously fast for his age. He won't be 18 until mid-June. Crazy.
