Yes. Most people are not capable of training. I realize that is a shock to people here. I have 2 children who ran D1 but were injured the majority of the time and they are no longer able to run.
"I told you so" does seem to be a poor choice of words for a response for a thread like this, true or not.
Why? I've been right the whole time. But a lot of people roasted me pretty harshly when I originally said her form made her unrecruitable.
let's just say you come off as an unsympathetic *ss. I'd choose a different wording of the same response. But, your insight appears to have been correct.
Low bone density from being unhealthy in high school, thats how these girls end up with constant stress fractures in college.
L5 is right at the bottom of the lumbar spine - at the lumbosacral joint. It could have nothing to do with low bone density or "being unhealthy in high school." There could be an alignment issue that is causing undue stress in that area, among other things. Reagardless, spondylolysis (in layman's terms, a stress fracture in the lower back) are most commonly caused due to muscles becoming fatigued which results in more pressure on the bones. It can happen during periods of growth as well.
Unfortunately there may be resulting compression or inflammation of the L5 or S1 spinal nerve root which could lead to radiculopathy symptoms or sciatica. That could cause sharp pains or a searing feeling in the buttock/glutes, thighs, legs, feet, or toes along with accompanying numbness.
All that she can really do is rest and take NSAIDs for pain, physical therapy, sometimes a brace is worn. Bone growth stimulation is occasionally used as well.
Trying to come back for the outdoor season is overly optimistic, IMHO. She'll need to get this healed because if it recurs enough, there could be resulting spondylolisthesis in which the vertabrae slip out of alignment. She'll need to not rush the healing process and hopefully will come back strong.
People have a tendency to be asses and leave insensitive comments and haters are gonna hate. Those that really care for her recovery and well-being can tell her in person, call, text or whatever. There's no reason for her to have to wade through a bunch of comments left by jack wagons. That does nothing positive for mental health.

Yeah, I remember your comments. You deserved to be roasted. Also, she runs that way because of her knee valgus. It is not about "form." I'm sure that you were told that multiple times as well but you just keep harping on "form."
No. You were absolutely wrong. She had an incredible XC season her freshman year. Being unrecruitable is an idiotic statement. Ok State received tremendous benefit. She was literally the best recruit that year. Smith was a genius. You are not. You are bragging about stating the opposite. And you seem happy that a talented young woman is injured.
Imagine bragging about being right with an athlete being injured, you sound like a 15 year old winning an argument. Grow up
Relax…manbearpig was only gloating about how at the time they said the school that took her would have to totally reinvent her running form or she’d be injured
an “I told you so” is not gloating about an injury

No, they were NOT saying that a school could "reinvent" her running form. It was well known when Natalie Cook was in high school that she has a medical condition known as "knock knee" (genu valgum) which can NOT be fixed by a coach.

Simmer down
When someone has knee valgus, running form is not reinvented.

Precisely
Then it should come as no surprise to anyone that any form of training geared toward racing is going to end in the same result
At this point no one should be surprised or wishful thinking to the contrary
Everyone criticized Dave Smith and blamed him for her transferring.
Turns out that Dave Smith actually kept her healthier and running faster than the school she transferred to.
Maybe she should have stayed at OSU.
What? She came to OSU healthy and running at a high level. It took Dave one fall to break her. She left OSU in crutches and now dealing with the consequences. Hoping she fully recovers and becomes what she was before arriving at Oklahoma State.
To be fair to Dave Smith, she was only really running for Ok state for 6 months or so. Arrived September, had a great 3 months including cross country, but had already checked out by the end of Indoors. I don’t think this one is on him at all given the really short duration of her stay: her knock knees, a history of injury and her clearly weak bones (under-eating at a young age?) all were part of this. He had nothing to do with it really. He did pick a great recruit though and got a great result in her Frosh x-country season.
I think her going to OSU made a lot of sense at the time for both parties. Close to home, great running history. Dave Smith recruits Texas a LOT. Alex Maier a many time All American is from the same high school!
Transferring also makes sense, if she didn’t like OSU it is great that kids have the ability to move on these days.
Shes injury prone, always has been. Hopefully she can get healthy and bounce back.
I'm a fan and hoping for the best, but if you are getting stress fractures in your spine, it might be time to call it a career. That suggests osteoporosis type weakness. Hope I'm wrong but also would like to think she's looking into plan B.

FORM.
Bunch of butthurt pansies on this board.
Girl can't run right. Either it can be fixed or you don't recruit her. This isn't football where you can throw away a scholarship.
