Right and wrong. You are right that a 1:48 is nothing special for a collegian. You are wrong to look at that time in isolation. He ran that 1:48 less than 24 hours after running 3:54. It’s the combo that makes for a “nice weekend” as that other guy wrote. That other guy is right.
Fareed Massoui (I'm probably spelling it wrong...the guy who won the 3K last year) hasn't even run the mile yet. I also imagine: -Jackson Sharp could run a 3:53-3:54 considering how much his distance game has improved -Davis Bove at Cal Poly ran a 3:56 3 years ago and he has improved a lot. I see no reason why he can't get sub-3:55 -I think Elliott Cook at Oregon could do 3:52-3:53 considering how versatile he is at 800 and how good of a distance runner he has. If he's been training solidly since December, I see no reason why he can't make it.
Very talented guy. Glad to see him making progress.
Credit to Gary for his hard work and to legendary coach Vin Lananna for being patient and careful with his development. Gary is clearly in great hands with one of the best coaches of all time.
Kessler has done nothing in the 3k this year. Just because he ran a fast mile, that doesn’t automatically mean he’s a better 3k guy than Nico and Ky.
Last year in not a great indoors and no where near as fit as he has become now he got dropped in a 3k at BU into no mans land. Quite frankly i thought he would give in and run like 7:46 from there, he did not and ran a very very good 7:39 right before turning 20.
He is simply much much better now, not just by the times, but you can see it if you are watching.
At 3k those two could not drop him, i dont think and he is simply just a faster closer or would he in my opinion.
Onviously I am biased , all on here know that. So i get the skepticism.
